The comments below the article sum it up well, they had a great product, very well known name, but didn't stay competitive.  
My first understanding of real workouts, and actual hard work on a bike, began when I locked into a Computrainer in the basement of Ride Brooklyn one early morning so many years ago and had my legs ripped off by some triathletes.  
And like a Cat 5 upgrading to Cat 4, I kept going, without any real explanation why.

I like my American made computrainer...and American made frame/fork.   Racermate never really evolved.  The tire interface to me was always a bad idea.  You needed an extensive warmup followed by a calibration.  And still I had questions about its accuracy/consistency...it's reported watts have always been way low (on mine anyway).  They constantly ignored requests to make computrainer compatible with Mac.  They turned into Blackberry.  They were really the first movers in an entirely untapped market and they couldn't see the future coming if you slapped them in the face with it.  They had the technology and the hardware to make themselves the preeminent virtual ride/smart trainer brand and they never pursued it.
I have finally figured out how to port my computrainer to Zwift correctly (controllable trainer-computrainer, power/cadence = Stages and heart rate = Wahoo Ticker)...annoying...but effective.  I've been on my fork mounted computrainer for 12 years without any hardware failures.  It will likely work forev's.    Gonna miss the brand but the earth moved under their feet overnight with Zwift and they have no one to blame for themselves.....I don't want to hear the "Chinese imports" excuse either....not this time when a company has been willfully indifferent to innovation.

I paid $1300 for the computrainer in 2004....even then they had 3D software that let you ride virtual courses.  They were soooo far ahead of everybody else cuz there was no one else doing what they were doing.  Still...I look at my Spooky bolted to my computrainer and I'm glad I bought these American made products before they were gone...

It reads like a conversation over beers or while riding. To almost all questions Kimmage says "I don't know" "That's my hunch" "There's no nice people over there" --- I mean, yeah, Sky's lack of transparency is embarrassing, and I am not going to defend them, but Kimmage seems to offer nothing new to support the headline: "Team Sky’s charade has been exposed"
