U have no idea....you should have seen the shit manufacturers made their pros ride down ski mountains in the early days of mountain bike racing = barbaric 

reminds me of Hincapie's crash, when Trek decided to change the fork from a full carbon one to a carbon with alloy steerer just for Roubaix. It cracked mid race in the same way.

Not exactly a fair sentiment, ATMO.

First, yes they are guinea pigs--testing is part of their job. But no, that isn't why Terpstra's stem broke and he crashed.

Seems like Terpstra wanted a rigid bike, but Specialized wanted him on their new Roubaix.  So the compromise was a non-flexing stem but dressed to look like the other Roubaix stems.  And then somewhere signals were crossed and the mechanics installed the wrong one, though they had the correct one on hand.  The wrong one wasn't designed to be abused this way.

There is a parallel to Hincapie's crash, but there, it wasn't that the steerer was alloy, but that the stem slipped and the movement of the fork going up and down and not being supported by the headset upper race is what broke the steerer.  I think if the stem had slipped on the carbon steerer, it, too, would have failed.  

not sure I knew that part of story about Hincapie's crash. Arguably, the stem moved because they changed the fork..., of course, who knows?

For me, the parallel is a little more on the fact that last minute, not well tested in training decisions were made.

The takeaway is obvious.

I take it they're on the lower-half, maybe even bottom quarter, of the budget spectrum on the WorldTour.  Still, they've been animators in the big races this year.  Haven't seen them at the front this much in years.

If anyone has ever done any mtb'ing in the vegas area, you probably know Jared Fisher (he owns Las Vegas Cyclery). I love this man and have ridden with him quite a bit. he's an amazig cyclist and mountain biker who leads rides all around red rock canyon. he used to be a pro bmx'er and rode with the likes of hoffman, etc.
anyway, I just saw he announced his plans to run for govenor of Nevada which got me all worked up this morning lol. pretty rad. no idea where he stands on the issues, so not a political endorsement. just a shout out to a fellow cyclist.

Jared hosts a century ride every thanksgiving that starts at Midnight. he rides through the night, gets home and rests up and then feasts. I got a lot of pressure to do it with him 2 years ago but ultimately passed. I think often times it ends up just being him and maybe one or two others.
