Regarding the above:

I went to one of those in August. On the good side, it's a chance for the average citizen to voice their concerns. You can hear some amazing things, both good and bad. On the bad side the council person and borough president will probably err toward picking people they know when they can.

they try to end these things on time. However, if you stick around after the end, the mayor and BP and councilperson and probably some others will be hanging around until everyone leaves. you can still get in front of the person you want to speak with.

I have nothing but love for the aqua bike and its quirky community. I discovered it last summer when I had to bump down from several tri's I had registered for in the dead of winter and long before I injured myself. You get most of the glory of a triathlon, bonding over a hatred of running with others at an ungodly hour (5AM anyone?) and finish your race long before the triathletes do giving you first access to the massage and food&beer tents.

It's been known for several months that POC has discontinued working with MIPS. That could be for any number of reasons, including the fact that Giro owns a stake in MIPS, which they did in 2014.

However, when I was at Interbike, a POC person told me their new tech will be more slippery pads. How much stock we should put in this, I don't know. When they announced the split, there was an article in bicycle retailer.

"SPIN, which stands for "Shearing Pads Inside" is a more integrated system. MIPS requires a separate layer inside the helmet against the head, which can add to the overall size of the helmet and potentially reduce air flow. SPIN uses helmet pads that perform a similar function.

SPIN pads "are placed in precise locations throughout the helmet and shear in any direction to minimize the effects of an oblique impact by allowing the helmet to move relative to the head," the company said.

POC snowsport helmets with SPIN will be available this fall, while bike helmets will be available for spring. He said some bike helmet models with SPIN may continue to be available but POC will not be adding MIPS to new models."

It's like a cars crumple zone....which manufacturers now employ...otherwise engine blocks would move into the passenger compartment and crush people (see 1970's era Cadillac's)
Not sure MIPS is going to be able to hold on to a broad patent. If POC is using pads that move in lieu of a plastic cage, I believe they successfully found a way around he patent.
