That written, I think you're unfairly conflating to completely different things. First, there are plenty of times when society lionizes an "inability to listen." Stories about of, 'they said s/he'd never ride again...' or 'everyone said it couldn't be done...' Second, one blind spot is not proof of others.
Twitter is a cesspool. Very few read well on it. People dig their proverbial heels in. And others seem to gleefully throw themselves on top of the pile-ons. Mob behavior happens both in person and online.
And, yes McGowan doesn't come across well, either. She makes clear she has time to tweet but doesn't have time to have a conversation; that's pretty awful as well.
BTW, ignore Strickland. He's always taking whatever path he deems popular. He was a huge Lance fan, even went to print with the fiction that he was part of Lance's inner circle. But when the reasoned decision came out, he worked mightily hard to seem like he was the first denouncing Armstrong. That's how Strickland rolls.
