The video of Skjelmose having to be carried away was hard to watch. Reports were he had hypothermic symptoms but was coming around after a hot shower/drinks/warm bus

Reminds me of the High Point Hill Climb I did in 2008. I made the mistake of waiting at the top (in snow and sleet, with only a skinuit on) for some friends to finish. The descent was a shivering mess; I had to get off 1/2 way down because I couldn't work the brakes and I was shivering to hard I couldn't keep the bike upright. Ended up curled in the footwell of my parked car with the heat on max.

Even without the reports, an eyeball of Skjelmouse shivering violently and being unable to get off his bike should be enough. I've seen violent shivering before. But not that level.

in my experience, not all hypothermic symtoms look the same--sometimes it's glassy eyes, slurred speech, and lack of coordination. For the person, the early stages, they don't always notice, and their brain is affected as well, so they aren't registering quite the same alarm as an observer even when they're as bad as Skjelmouse.
What's frustrating is that warming up is slow. Getting in a hot tub or shower is too painful. Dry, warm clothes don't seem to do anything. Even being in control of muscles enough to hold a mug containing a warm beverage can be hard. It can take hours to feel normal again.

Hypothermia, hyperthermia and hypoxia all share the trait that the victim is largely unaware how their judgement is deteriorating in the early stages. This makes them all very dangerous when situational awareness and judgement are keeping you safe.

This is really sad news, but had been coming for a while. Pre pandemic I had the chance to meet some of the people there, hope they land on their feet. I wonder what could happen to soul cycle and equinox bikes, as the article suggests the brand and some gear might stick around.
Not sure about the shimano purchase, shimano bought pioneer to help build their power meters, can’t imagine a second company would be a good idea.

If they're the preferred supplier for gyms like Equinox and Soul Cycle I have to assume some holding company will pick up that business and glom it on to whatever other parallel vertical they already have. But laying off the entire staff is... not a great sign.

Well, one option less for the power meter I'm putting on my Ritchey. Although maybe they'll be cheap now and then I might risk it.
I don't see shimano buying it because then they'd admit that their current strategy and Pioneer acquisition are a failure. Also, I assume selling the company was what they tried before firing everyone.

FWIW , the last couple of years anything you order online from Rapha has been shipping from the UK ,its used to come from a US warehouse
