OMG FINALLY!
Yes , Thibau Nys’s kids will be competing

Remco Evenepoel set to ride Tour of Flanders, Milan-San Remo, Liège and Tour de France in 2025

“What we wanted to highlight was that we didn’t build the shoe to last 1,000 miles,” said Patrick Nava, global vice-president of product management for running at Adidas. “We also understand that $500 is a very extreme price tag . . . but with pro cyclists, their bikes can cost $20,000. They can cost more than a car.”

NYT "overlooked" obituary series highlights past profiles not previously reported by the times. This week is not just a pro cyclist from Belgium, he was one of the first openly trans athletes.

The New York City connection is something.  Didn't see that coming.

Damn shame it's probably too late for MVDP and WVA
Adrie van der Poel was 37 when he won his CX world championship! Mathieu would still only be 35 in 2030.
Fascinating interview with Michael Johnson. If you're old enough #iykyk
Quite impressive how articulate and thoughtful he is. I don't typically associate that with sprinters. My bad.

They should just run the stage like a game of Supermarket Sweep, but in cycling shoes.

Super cool one, Greg seems to be in better health now. I hadn’t read much since the initial reports about his cancer, so this was nice to see.

Phil Liggett is hanging up his spurs as a commentator. Adieu "suitcases of courage."
Definitely going to miss his voice. For better or worse, his voice is indelibly linked to the sport - in my head at least.

Yeah, we joke and give him a hard time, but Liggett, as the caption states, is a legend. He, and his co-pilot, Sherwen, created a language on top of which all english (or otherwise) commentators lean and built on.

Every once in a while I watch old race videos, Liggett and Sherwen were amazing.

The interviewer mentions: "You are the soundtrack". I used to joke that I couldn't imagine a bicycle race without his voice.

While I think Liggett should have been sent out to pasture as reward for his painfully naive (delusional?) defense of Lance Armstrong 12 years ago, he was the expert commentator when I started watching bike racing.

I racked up many, many hours replaying VHS cassettes of CBS broadcasts; many of his turns of phrase are locked in my head, along with the John Tesh synth soundtrack....'the final rendezvous of a vicious day'...'the roads lie on the hillside like discarded string'...'as the French say, don't drink and drive; you might spill it'...and many more.
This story is the stuff of nightmares.

@LennartZandbergen

maybe it has something to do with this.

Keegan Swenson Dominates Leadville Trail 100 Once Again,

On a gravel bike ?

Keegan put that together riding Cunningham. Obvs.
Colnago releases a marquee frame with rim brakes and now researchers have hacked Di2? Luddites like me are feeling pretty smug right about now...

The new cat 5 doping trick is to hack everyone into the small ring at the top of the last hill in a prospect park race
Hate to see this, but at least this might be the first time I did not pick him on a fantasy team.

"Cycle Industry’s Collapse After Bike Boom Ends This Year, Say Analysts"

https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2023/08/11/cycle-industrys-collapse-after-bike-boom-ends-this-year-say-analysts/

"Industry analysts believe 2023 will be a trough year, with sales recovering through 2024 and beyond and at a more sustainable level than the heights of the Covid bike boom."

Pretty weak article, IMO.  But somethign to think about all the same.
This fall will be a good time to buy a bike?

It is always a good time to buy a bike.

(But also yes, stuff that used to be completely sold out for months or years are actually available and at discounts from what I can tell.)
