For those who don't slavishly follow my frustrations, I read one of Gladwell's recent pieces in the New Yorker. It was on sports and doping, and was based two books I knew. He either didn't understand them or deliberately distorted what they were imparting.

The interesting thing to me is that I pitched the story to Slate, which turned me down. Probably too long and niche-y. And then they ran a takedown of Gladwell's latest book. Gladwell was sufficiently annoyed that he wrote a nasty and obfuscating response.

@Myles - i was thinking about you when I posted it. I read the FB thread. I've heard of and seen videos of that group ride before and its a wonder there hasn't been more crashes.They are all a bunch of idiots.

Interesting how first crashee just bails off his bike like a parachuter, riderless bike then causes pile-up, and also how the GoPro guy just grabs his front brake and goes straight over the bars — I would have never thought to have done that!

Exactly.the ensuing debate has been all about how avoiding crashes us silly
because thats not what they do in the Midwest, clinics and seminars are
useless especially when taught by me, and my involvement in elute cycling

Massive potential bummer. Especially because they could certainly add ramps to the north side and have no interest in doing so.

I'm trying to figure out what the "NPR" ride is. Somehow related to LAX? @Ryan? @EricTheRed?

re GWB walkway: A few years ago we had to use the north side for many months, maybe a year. One can get used to anything. It isn't the end of the world and will not prevent our group rides. I sort of liked getting off my bike and stretching my back before heading north into NJ.
