ARISING FROM THE RELEASEES' OWN NEGLIGENCE TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW
Like all releases, your ability to sign away your rights is reviewable in court after the sh*t hits the fan.

Speaking of dumbass events, by the way... Isaiah our 2.5 year old is STILL going on about the "man on the bike on top of the bus who JUMPED down" at Providence.

Apparently the risk management gene runs strong with this one...

So here's the next part. This waiver isn't worth spit.
When I went and did the first supercross back in 01 or 02, I had a ambulance chaser friend of mine look over the whole thing. Effectively he told me there was no way to protect myself from liability, despite waivers, etc, because of the dangers inherent in bicycle racing. the example he used was even if I made a course, uci spec, signed off on it, and someone fell, and sliced their neck on a broken bottle that was under the grass for a year, it's my fault because I should have found it.
The other point he raised was being sued for medical issues, really isn't a personal attack, it's literally the only way (at times) to get medical issues re imbursed. Again the example, if JP is at my race and gets really fucked up, he then sues me because he wants to get his medical issues looked after. (technically he sues our insurance company, or whatever... ) His example again was "you wouldn't want your friend to be 100s of thousands of dollars out of pocket? Of course not. So his insurance company sues my insurance company and we all go eat ice cream.
Now, while I'm relatively certain thats not how it flies in the real world, it opened my eyes to the liability I was facing. EG when supercros went up the stairs at eisenhower and through the metal gate that was only 8 feet wide, not 10 feet wide as mandated by the UCI i insisted an official inspect it, and sign off on it so if some fucktard ripped his nut sack off trying to jump over a brightly painted round metal pole, my ass was covered a little bit.
Trimbles got some issues. Kid. Novice racer. A minor. Signed in by a parent or guardian? Thats a fuck show right there boy. Did he realize what he was getting into? Could he? Should david have protected my client from his own youthful stupidity. His parents don't speak english, do they read it? Who signed the kid in? Who checked the kid out?
My gut? he gets sued large in court and the insurance company pays out to help the kid. If he's got half a brain he has castaldi make a deal so the city doesn't get sued, and some bean counter at townhall doesn't go "WTF! This is waht can happen at a bike race? Screw that shit, you guys are done. " But.. we have no idea how well insured he is, or not. FYI USAC insurance is... overage insurane that tops out at 25k. Effectively useless, as my insurance broker also told me when I started doing supercross.
Promoters are lazy. While we do the job to get the job done, if a corner can be cut, it will be. Just saying. It's almost natural since none of us (practically) get paid for this shit. So we at times doe the bare minimum. Apparently I have higher standards than most, but thats really it.

I think the most important thing to remember from this thread is that Myles knows inevitably some "Fucktards will rip open their nut sacks" doing something stupid.

Bought it for Kindle. Great story telling so far, but like a lot of indie publications there are a lot of little typos and grammatical errors.Mark Clifford said:i just finished reading the book domestique by charly wegelius. imo, a great read. he provides a somewhat unique insight into the grit and hardships of pro cycling and has some interesting things to say about certain pros (... as i always suspected, cuddles is a dick).

reading "Wheelmen"...so far the biggest revelation is that L.A. got more tail than a toilet seat...and that he is a narcissistic, drug abusing cad. Wait was any of that a "revelation"? back to the Kindle then...

Best part:
"First, everyone is an expert these days. The internet and a power meter do not replace 50,000 miles of experience, but try telling that to a fit forty year-old, new to cycling, on a $5000 bike. Or, god forbid, a triathlete. No one wants to be told what to do."

I like this part:
"Third, different rides are advertised by average speed, but speed is only one part of the equation. This approach makes speed the sole metric for judging a cyclist, and creates the false impression that a fit rider is a good one. Almost anyone can be somewhat fast on a bike, but few learn to be elegant, graceful cyclists."

My favorite thus far from "Wheelmen..." is this slap against NYT reporter Samuel Abt,
"...who built a career as Amstrong's unofficial post-cancer propagandist, described this period of his life [Lance's post wedding period with Kristin] as a soul-searching awakening that included every kind of trope of self-discovery except a pilgrimage to TIbet."
Zing!

Haven't read it yet, but doesn't Sally Jenkins deserve the biggest slap of all? And put Wilcockson in second, with Strickland vying for third? Abt was in the twilight of his career by the time Armstrong had cancer.

I had lunch with sally a while ago.. I asked her how she was feeling about
the impending shit storm. She was in absolute denial. I think the quote
was unless Lance tells me directly that he doped or maybe hincapie I won't
believe it. .. oy. I haven't bumped into her in a while. But I do
look forward to doing so and hearing what she has to say on the subject.

By the way since I am sure some of you are going to ask I first met her in
2006 or so before the book has really come out. She was this super nice
lady who came into the shop I was running and asked me really politely if I
could fit her for a bicycle that a friend was giving to her. I said of
course sure come on by and we'll figure it out. I got her in the shop and
she told me she was getting a Trek 5200
Now we all know Trek is poo.
Of course I tried to casually figure out if I could convert it into a
sale. We had a little bit of back and forth on the subject and she finally
said well I sort of have to get a trek because the friend that is giving it
to me sort of works there. I knew a few people in research and design so I
inquired who it was ( realizing my hopes of flipping this into a sale had
evaporated. Might as well be nice)
She then told me well my friend is Lance Armstrong, I co wrote his new
book.
I kinda went huh. Neat.
So I finished my job set her up with the build sheet for a non custom trek,
she was kind enough to buy me lunch because I didn't want to charge for the
fit. ( Catholic guilt over sticking someone with a trek). And I figured
that was the end of it.
A month later she comes in all pissed off because old one nut totally shit
the bed and never ordered the bike then went off to France doped himself
into next year totally forgot about Sally and trek was basically sold out
of her size cause he won a yellow t shirt again.
So I sold her a pretty pink telekom issue Giant tcr. That to this day she
completely loves.
And to make it even funnier I had to ship it to Texas for a ride with one
nut who completely lost his shit (which was formerly safely in his bed (see
above paragraphs)) when Sally Jenkins showed up on a telekom issue Giant.

Myles, she was living on another planet. Tripling down on Lance's innocence was dumb. And I tweeted her directly to tell her so. As the men partied into the early morning hours, Armstrong retreated to one of the private offices. He sat at a desk with two completely naked women beside him. Landis noticed what looked like cocaine on the desk. When Armstrong looked up and saw Landis staring at him, he shut the door, and that was the last he saw of him that evening.
what the what???? is this professional cycling or fifty shades of grey????

she bought the lie like everyone else
Oct 17, 2013 at 03:32 AM
it's worse than that. She not only bought the lie, but magnified it, slammed those who disagreed, and when the truth came out, she blamed those who bought her lies and excused both herself and Lance.Myles said:she bought the lie like everyone else
And amazingly, she's an award-winning journalist. Much like some of Lance's other defenders, namely Rick Reilly and Buzz Bissinger.
Oct 17, 2013 at 04:07 AM
I love that all of the cycling publications still treat Carmichael like some Svengali as opposed to the beard he really is. His coaching empire is built on the same lie Lance's tour wins were. In a word, he is a shit and should be treated as such by being flushed away and never to be seen again.
