And it's not just Compton. American and American-based women are SLAYING it over there. At Diegem we had no fewer than 5 actual Americans in the top 11. And if you count Gabby Durrin (a brit who has spent enough time over here over the last 2+ years racing to have fallen in love with and married Jeremy Durrin) that's 6.Jules said:Can we talk about how Katie F*cking Compton is slaying all these days?
KFC gave away the world championships last year to Vos. It wasn't a lousy start if Vos hadn't been there--it would have been merely bad--but with Vos on form it was absolutely awful. By the end of the first lap, Compton was out of the hunt for the win. KFC steamrolled behind, catching and dropping everyone else, but she wasn't making up time. And she doesn't have the finesse of sven.Gwynna Smith said:I hear what you are saying, Marc, and maybe it is a strategy that won't hold with the big girls. On the other hand, Sven seems to NEVER start hard - he's often way at the back of the pack for the first two or three laps. Then, he slowly claws his way forward. If she just doesn't have an off-the-line sprint in her but she's got the staying power to crush when everyone else is fading, then that could be a viable strategy. I haven't seen her race and really know nothing about her style, but maybe closing gaps, bridging, jumping, etc. are where she can put her power most effectively.
That said, you make a point that she needs to know this about herself.
Just watched this...thanks for posting. Very cool to see. So yeah, I see Compton is still struggling with starts. Of course she crushes everything after she gets through the first bottleneck. If we all only had more than a mere fraction of a fraction of Compton's engine...mperlberg said:
