It looks like bike riding has helped Barry lose weight. Maybe a SRM will do more for him.
I generally root for the underdog, but Cancellara is amazing:

"Since 2010, Cancellara has finished on the podium in every monument that he has completed and. he continued that run in Roubaix - his third place behind winner Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) was his 12th podium finish in succession in the monuments, during a spell that has included five of his total seven victories."

He has obviously learned his leason from a couple of years ago when he allowed people to just ride his wheel during the finale. Now he just refuses to work when there are sprinters around.

To my delight, Sagan has been underwhelming when the chips are down. And Boonen? Last in the chase group? I remember when he quit Radioshack because they wouldn't let him ride for himself.

Hurrah for the underdogs!
Wiggins stealing Vlad's lines son:

@dstokes: Sagan has been underwhelming?! We've been watching a different classics season.

Also, Boonen going at 63 from the line and then finishing "last in the chase group" is pretty fucking badass in my book, especially given that his teammates got to sit in for the last hour and WIN. Boy ate his muffins for free on Sunday.

FWIW, Sagan crashed, switched bikes, flatted, switched to a teammate's bike, then, when there was a let-up, switched bikes again.  Of course, Cancellara was crashed by a teammate who mis-hopped a curb.

W/ boonen, I think you're remembering his days on US Postal, and I saw it kind of differently.  He was a nobody who put in a great ride at Roubaix when he was there in support of Hincapie, who crashed at the critical moment.  Once Tommeke finished that Roubaix, he was the toast of Belgium, and it was inevitable he'd leave for a Belgian team.  THen, once on Quickstep, he looked happier than Pozzato when Pippo won San Remo by attacking in the final k to set up Boonen for the sprint. Interesting that Terpstra has a rep as a selfish rider.
^ Was Cancellara crashed? In video below he was held up by teammate kiwi Hayden Roulston (and actually if you look closely, Roulston's front wheel washed out in some mud in the gutter).

And re selfish Terpstra: he did immediately attack when his DS gave "them" the green light – no mention of Stybar.

never saw that angle.

And, yes, it was the savvy team move.  Wasn't questioning that.  Just struck by how he was portrayed.
Actually I take that back, Cancellara is quoted as saying he crashed, I think Cyclocosm got it wrong.

Re Terpstra, I was curious why Terpstra got to attack first. The way Velo News tells it, it sounds like he just beat Stybar to the punch.

Considering he just got to the lead group, strikes me that he was probably seen as the weakest of the three.  As such, he should go first, draw out the chase and then Stybar or Boonen would be able to counter when he was about to be brought back.

Nice interview with Phil Castaldi...

I should read NYVelocity.com more often...

Interview with Kathryn Bertine of Cola Vita and her documentary about women's pro cycling and now marginalized it is within our sport:

Her doc Half the Road that I'd like to go see sometime next week:

And she's speaking at one of the Bike Habitat shops (I'm assuming the one on LaFayette) on monday 4/21:
Bertine will attend select screenings opening weekend, and is planning to speak at Bicycle Habitat tentatively on Monday evening April 21.

So long as the sun doesn't turn you into a handbag and road rash doesn't leave you with ample scarring, turns out exercise keeps your skin looking young.

Related, Swedish carmaker Volvo announced at the recent Autoshow in NY, that one of their goals is that by the year [can't remember exact year], there will be no fatalities or serious injuries in one of their cars.

Of course, autonomous self-driving Volvo cars will go on sale this year. #notkidding

Not strictly an "article" but I'm loving Phil Gaimon's book "Pro Cycling on $10 a day"

Some stuff you've read before, some silly antics, but a great view overall into the sport with some gems.

Since the training & racing week is done for most of us, I'll leave you with this gem (page 253 if you're counting) from his 2013 (new ) coach,

"First interval: time trial pace; second interval: all out; third interval: Chariots of Fire."

Support a good cause, buy yourself a copy, don't borrow one.
