That article has been making the rounds today. I made nothing of it. It is a gran fondo, not a race. By all means, all of them go ride it. Whatevs.

But then Dieter pointed out this is a USAC permitted event. Permit Number: 2014-2821

How, why is Armstrong allowed to ride it? What am I missing?

Gotta say, it might pass, but I am feeling honestly embarrassed to be a USAC license holder right about now.

If USAC does nothing and Armstrong rides, USADA could potentially use this against armstrong, pointing out that he knowingly flouted the terms of his ban, giving them another reason not to back down on the lifetime ban, or push it to eight years from the date of this Fondo.

After Chris Baldwin raced BRAC (bicycle racing assoication of colorado or something) during his doping ban, the ADA's figured they better make a rule preventing people from competing in non-sanctioned races, otherwise the ban was meaningless. So now if one competes in a race during their ban, the ban can be re-started from the date of that race.

It sort of pales in comparison, in terms of length, but I've always been a fan of a short stretch on the West Side path from about 96th street, new, bridgey, cool design, close/over the water. In the mornings, on my way to PP races, it always feels like I'm launching out of one of the ORIGINAL Battlestar Galactica (don't even talk to me about the emperor's new clothes remake of a few years back) battle ship tubes.

Of course, in the afternoon, or even late morning, clogged, way too narrow for bikers and runners. #visionfail
