I had a crappy morning all around. I was late (took too long getting going, forgot water bottles, etc) and TT'd to race rolled up, dropped bag at bag drop and lined up at the back of the field. Moved up without much difficultly. At the end of 2 or 3, I get a tap on my hip near the temple / boards and I figure someone is just trying to let me know he is there so I don't run him into the gutter since I'm on the right hand edge of the road. Then I get a couple more taps and I just keep riding. There wasn't much I could do, no room to my right and the field on my left. Next thing I know I have someone on my left trying to give me some "friendly advice" saying I'm swerving etc. I'm not having any of it and I do my best Garrigan impression sitting up and turning to talk to the guy who is behind me on my left. I think it is one of the Burrows brothers (W.S. United). I wasn't having any of it. After saying my piece, I focus on the road ahead and I hear Jules telling him I'm right (thanks Jules). Turns out I'm no Garrigan and I should save my energy for riding.
That distraction, fatigue from lack of sleep this week and a bit too much time in the wind was enough to say lights out for me. I just couldn't catch back on after getting gapped at the top of the hill. Considering the carnage probably just as well.
