I'll be there to do reg.  Willing to do KOM if necessary, but someone's gotta show me the ropes.

Does anyone on the club have a more personal relationship with Charlie I.? At present, he is not responding to my emails about getting on the start list for Saturday's race. In short, without drama, I am owed a free entry from the cancelled race. He is not honoring that promise from 1 month ago. I do not know why. He won't answer my emails. I could use some help here. Thanks.

Perhaps you should volunteer to reg to get back into Charlie's good graces. You are obviously on his shit list for some reason.

@ David - if you're going to do KOM email Charlie directly please cibike@aol.com

Done.

Aaron, it's Masters 40+ Cat 1-4. So if you are 40 years or older, you can race. Hopefully that's good news for you.
^ and some of us not so good news

Aaron - you're registered in the women's field. There isn't a field you can race in.

Marc - what happened with your Charlie correspondence?

Craig, all, thanks for your help and interest. Nothing doing so far. But I've got alt plans (T-Town if there is no rain), plus, my very level headed wife, has cooled me down about all of this. I'm going to chalk this all up to just a funny year in cycling for me.

I've been dealing with the same issue.
Not calling him out on anything, but had similar experiences trying to correspond with Charlie via email.  I pre-reged throughout the L&C series as a cat5.  After upgrading to the 4s I requested a few times to be transferred to the 4s field.  He never responded.  Since then I've showed up on race mornings and the reg guys have to manually just write me down onto the 4s start list and give me a new number.

I'm imagining he's swamped with emails and not responsive to any emails outside of ones he's initiated.  Example would be my emailing him to volunteer for KOM duties for this weekend, but he hasn't confirmed yet.

Nobody likes "no response to email" but it's a lot to ask that he respond to dozens of emails from 250+ riders for 2 races a week on issues that can be solved at the registration table.

Also, it's his BIRTHDAY today, so how about we cut him some slack?   :)

Who is with me in forgiving our Issendorfian overlord...

In Charlie's defense he responded to my email two Thursdays ago when I asked if R&A race that weekend was closed. He emailed me back the next morning.
New rule: No complaining about Charlie.

I'm not even suggesting anyone has been "complaining" per se, but let's stick to the current policy of working with him in all matters. Go the extra mile to get your issues resolved with all available personnel so he doesn't have to. We're all profoundly appreciative of everything he does for New York racing and KCC so it ain't no thang.
I exchanged email with Charlie this week about the incorrect KOM stuff.  Suffice to say, during the racing season he is swamped with crazy, neurotic, obsessive amateur bike racers bugging him about anything you could possibly imagine.

Kinda like when we bug Jules about the clothing order and ask him how many socks we're going to need in August if the temperature averages 80.1-85.7 as opposed to 92.3-97.8

btw. The rumor I heard today was that the gentleman who lost his gopro in the last race (and when I say gentleman I do of course mean twat) actually slammed on his brakes in order to stop and retrieve his $200 piece of equipment.
And that it was actually said heavy retardation that caused the crash not the bouncing vanity piece itself.

Of course this is only hearsay and speculation , but hey - there is nothing we love more about bike racers.
Did we bother with a plan for this race tomorrow? Bathroom at 550?
@Ian - That dude is mostly OK and is usually a pretty darn solid wheel. Sounds like he did some stupid shit, but there are far worse in our midst.

@Ian, no I saw him slow and move into the joggers lane to stop.  JP just hit the GoPro at 32 mph...
Huge congrats to Kayt who finished not just her first race but her first competitive athletic event EVER!

For those who missed it, the KCC support crew looked a little like this

Whew.  This was a tough one.  I really didn't feel good at any point throughout the race; everyone has "off" days so I don't want to analyze it too closely.  It's been a HOT rest week so perhaps I was a bit closed up, and I didn't eat & drink very well yesterday... who knows.

Eric was an absolute gentleman today; he rode me around on his wheel and beat the field down with a mallet trying to soften the field for a break.

Unfortunately Eric's wheel is about as popular as a bag of cookies at a preschool so I found myself fighting really hard to stay on it; even bashing bars a few times.

Looking at my power numbers I don't see any outstanding efforts but it does look like I was on the gas the whole time - too much to recover, but not enough to make a break stick.

After my final attempt to get away (maybe 4 to go?) I seriously thought about sitting up and quitting, but I couldn't find Eric to tell him... so I sat at the back for a bit before moving back up to the front with 2 to go.  I tried one last time over the hill but I just didn't have the pop.

I was so happy to see "1 to go" because I knew if we were all together by then it was going to be a bunch sprint and I'd be able to sit in and roll to the finish.

There were few nerves towards the end as I tired to find a quiet corner on the side of the peloton but in the end everyone stayed upright.

I really had to sit down and rest for a while afterward; something that hasn't happened to me a in long time.  Even after I dragged myself to Konditori for coffee all I was good for was sitting & drinking water.

As they say in Italian, "la Prossima!"

I almost forgot - on my warmup I rode into MOTHRA - some kind of giant winged insect and screamed like a little girl in terror.  It was horrible.
Ok, I finally came-to enough to check.  This week's race was 10 degrees hotter than last.  Food for thought.
Here's a little video of Kayt racing. As I told her at the race, I tried to find some cheesy music to set it to, but iMovie on the iPhone has a limited selection and this was the cheesiest I could come up with.

^ Awe, thanks Craig. Really appreciate everyone's support before, during and after the race. I definitely would not have been there if it hadn't been for your votes of confidence, wise advice, and unwavering encouragement. You guys are the best.
Congrats on not only competing in your first race, but finishing!  Not everyone manages that trick on the first try. (known from personal experience)  Great work!
I'm registered for Saturday's Masters race.  Anyone else?
Lenny, you've been away for awhile...someone should have told you this but there is a little website called "bikereg" where you can open a window called "who's registered" and see who has registered in an event. Other changes you may have missed in your absence; drug testing at local races (geritol is ok), aluminum is the new carbon, power taps = out and crank based or pedal based power meters = in, wide rims and tires = in, I got better looking, blood doping = out, Strava doping = in, cliff bars = out and muffins = in.
Welcome back you old billy goat!
Drug Testing????  Really?  Is it too late to get my reg fees back?  Speaking of old billy goats, why don't you join me Saturday Yack?  You can drop back to the team car to bring me bottles, and protect me in the peloton.
I'm in, but I lack Yak's sprint, Lenny's sass or even a ponytail.  I guess I'll just try and blind them all with my freakishly white legs.
^ i wish i could join you, jules.  the combined whiteness of our legs would be too much for any field to bear.  we'd walk it in.
