Hey all, we need a few more volunteers for reg table.  I should be able to relieve racers and help pin numbers, etc. before having to go off and marshal, but it's always nice to be able to rotate with a few people...

Dave,
Since this is my first time volunteering. I just want to confirm. I arrive at 5:15 am help set up pre reg tables and assist with handing out numbers. At this time do I get my number to race? Should I already have pre reg on bike reg? Or do I wait till everyone has registered to then see if I can race? LMK

Many thanks
M

If you want to race, pre-reg!  It would suck for you to volunteer so early in the morning and not be able to race because there aren't enough spots left.

The tables and books are usually already out by 5:15 and you will be signing people in, checking licenses, handing out numbers, etc.  I like grabbing my number first thing and pinning up early before it gets too busy.  If you get crushed with a lot of people that's where the additional volunteers help since you can have someone take over your spot while you pin/warm up.
The last time I volunteered for a Masters race, I asked racers to confirm their name before signing the release form.  They couldn't see it.  I couldn't see it.  None of us had our reading glasses. . .
This will be my first race ever if I do it -- good idea? Bad idea? I don't want to piss anyone off by being in the way, but I live around the corner from the park so maybe?

Women's only field - so it's a great idea, especially with teammates!
Meredith, I think this is the perfect first race opportunity for you. You know the course, complicated logistics are limited, and like Jules pointed out, you'll have teammates. Perfect conditions.
Thanks Dave for the heads up. I'll pre reg this week. Is 5 better?
Masters fields usually have a break going off early, never to return.  Knowing this, if a break goes and we are not there, then we are as comical and inept as this hoser:

Sorry gents, my coach has given me strict orders not to race this weekend. I'm still recovering from some chest congestion I got last week. I was really looking forward to racing this weekend.

Dave, I will still honor my commitment to helping out at pre-reg on Saturday morning. No worries. I know Charlie will credit me for the next race. Boo : (
@Mark. Is there a marshal captain for this race. I know Charlie would really appreciate that, and you would definitely get credit for a future free race. Even if that is taken, you could email Charlie and just offer your services. I bet he could find something useful for you to do. No sense wasting a 5am wakeup shivering on the sidelines.
@Mark - No worries if you can't make it this week, though as David Stokes said Charlie can always use a few extra volunteers to help out.
@Meredith, the penultimate R&A race last year was my first race and first athletic event ever. You'll do great. Sign up!
Ok Dave's I'll let Charlie know I am available to pitch in and help wherever he needs help.
@Kayt I signed up! I hope this rain stops!
Old men. Who is feeling good? I am perfectly happy to be around to go for a break. Or to captain stuff and tell others what to do and set stuff up. I am concentrating on Sunday racing, so I am malleable. I think I'll be racing just fine.

Others? Roster? Malcolmson?
@Ragot
I am out of commission Saturday. Orchard Sunday (3/4 + 2/3)\
Why not snag yourself some free kit?
Kom?
sure go for KOM.

I may race, though I am apt to blow-up at any point commencing the 2nd time up the hill. I'm torn about sitting in and getting a decent training ride or alternatively trying to do something for the team and blow-up in a blaze of glory. I know everyone will say blaze of glory...

R&A Masters: Organize. Captain. Roll call. Roll assignment. Race with purpose. Finish with pride. Debrief afterwords. Share muffins and stories of glory.
I'm planning to race the masters (on a borrowed bike).

Yes...why not go for the KOM....I'll try to get to the front before the climb and help drive someone to the top.
I will be there.  #jankeythumb notwithstanding I can drive from the finish to the bottom of the hill, or whatever else is needed.
Ooh this has the makings of a train ! I'll take over at the base of the climb and drive it to the metal plate on the right side or that spot where the Kom is juuuust out of sight
I'll do what I can.
Glad we have our own old man's field:

I am dealing with a sciatica issue so I'm iffy for Saturday. I rode to work today but it didn't feel great. I'm going to try some openers tomorrow. If I'm race worthy I'm happy to participate in whatever plan develops.

Team, as you are planning for this weekend's Master's race, don't forget to take into account that the race will have a wider range of experience levels than other typical park races. Looks like the 40+ field is full. Here are the KCC riders signed up.

P.S. Kissena "bike club," really? What team is that!? ;-)

P.P.S. While this race is not a KCC joint (it's Greg Avon's Kissena "Sports"), I'm impressed that I still see guys from our club willing to get up early to help marshal! Good on you!
Is anyone wanting to race that got shut out of reg?

Like I said above I'm iffy. Give me a shout and I'll let you know by tomorrow if I'm in bowing out. I imagine we can get Charlie to swap the reg.

@ Marc

Charlie promotes these races now. He has for 2 years. He's the KCC race director. The kissena sports thing is just a legacy thing in getting the series and permits from Avon, I believe. For all intents and purposes, it is a KCC race.
