Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Bring fenders Brendan. Certain sections are wet. Plus they had a marathon this motning that was still going on at 11:30

Nice (but smallish) group ride this morning. About 8 or 9 of us to Rockleigh crit course (too icy for hotlaps), Sparkill, then split up, with a group of 5 heading to Rockland lake. Then we motored home via the high road and 9W avoiding testosterony police officers in Piermont altogether.

Thanks to JP for leading and for the rest of the guys for putting up with my shenanigans when I just couldn't help myself. Nice paceline rotation on the way home on 9W, I kind of imploded as the rollers came more frequently and we started dodging slower riders and puddles on the road, but for a solid few miles we had a nice smooth rotation going with everyone taking good equal pulls.

Top Training Tips:
  1. Hopefully everyone will try to get in 2 or more group rides per month as the season progresses. It's part of a well-balanced diet training plan for anyone who intends on mass-start racing this year!
  2. For those of you who had a heavy weekend and/or few days of riding/training, remember that an easy active recovery ride on Monday is MUCH better for you than taking the day off altogether. If you are still tired, then Tuesday is the day to take off, and get back to work on Wednesday!
Going to do laps in PP now. Come on by if you want to chat and ride.
Great ride on Sunday, good company and great weather. Marc and I tag teamed on some sneaky "took big to be climber dude" KOM moments. Only down side was that the pot holes did a number on my wheels. No flats but my front wheel is rolling as if it is missing a spoke and my power tap decided to stop working.... Le sigh.

Okay, so I'm about to drop another TWO clinics on you and make it official. So there...

"Olmsted's Order: Deciphering Central Park" (two separate dates)

Where: East 79th (?) in the park; traditional start/finish line of CP races
When: March 1 AND March 15, 7:30-8:30am
What: Course review/ride through and tactical notes. Will work on approach to final sprint as time/crowds allow.
Who: All KCC members (friends/family welcome too, but let me know ahead of time so I can bring release forms or something)

Additional notes:
  • Again, lots of stopping and starting here to allow me to point out lines, approaches, exits, etc., in a way that everyone can hear. Dress appropriately.
  • Also, I've ADDED a second date on March 1, for those who are planning to race the first AVD Spring Series race and want to get clinical the day before. As of now, however, it seems the more popular date will be on the 15th, when several from the women's team have already written the date in their calendars.
  • While many chose not race CP in the spring there are two bigger later season races in CP that are very popular with the club. And being successful in CP is challenging. Can be easy to finish with the bunch, but placing is a whole 'nother thing. So, you know, something to think about...

Hey Folks - just waking up over here and heading to prospect park for some Sunday laps around 9:30 maybe til 11:30.

it will be endurance paced.

just look for me in the KCC old style winter jacket or text 347-757-0888

Anybody not racing Saturday and riding over the bridge.?
I'll be riding in Prospect Park doing some laps Sunday. Not sure what time. Prob 11am or so. Let me know if anyone wants to meet up.
@Mark Taylor-Not going over the Bridge til around 10:00 Sunday, BUT we do have an open Computrainer spot at 8:30 Saturday morning.  PM me if you're interested in joining.
@Mark Taylor, consider timing your ride over the GWB on Saturday to allow you to stop and watch some of the racing action at Grant's Tomb. It's on your way!
I'm going for some base miles this weekend instead of racing. If anyone wants to join me I'll be leaving around 10:45-11:00 am gwb on the NJ side. 2-3 hour rides each maybe 45 miles or so into piermont and around 9 west. Some hills included.
I am stuck working sat and sun mornings. I will ride long wed am 9am at GWB and friday am TBD but probably 9AM GWB potentially earlier/later depending if I'm handcuffed to some stranger's bedpost thursday night or if I actually have something in the legs and feel like I can go 4+ hrs friday and be back home by noon.
We'll see.
MIGHT race next weekend.
Would LIKE to race in Coxsackie on the 29th. Need a ride.
That is all.

Keith
Weather report says 55 Saturday. I'm heading out GWB 10:30am and prob same Sunday for a few hours. Any and all free to join. I'm doing some hill repeats up Alpine most likely and tooling around hills in Piermont.
I'll be attending Marc's CP clinic this Saturday, so probably rolling over the GWB later than the 9am meet-up. Anyone else attending the clinic want to head to Piermont?

Please click on over to the Mentor thread to see an announcement and more details about my third Slow Group Ride of the season.

When: Sunday March 16th, no earlier than 10am, no later than 11am
Where: New Jersey side of the GWB
What: Slow group ride, with two options. "Alpine Secrets" or the much longer "Giddyup to Saddle River, NJ"
Why: Because everyone needs the opportunity to ride in a group without fear of getting dropped.

@Erika, I'm up for a ride to Piermont after the clinic.

Should we also set a meeting time for anyone going to Marc's clinic from BK? I'm thinking 7:00 am Brooklyn Bridge.
FYI for Sunday morning, the NYRR NYC Half Marathon will be happening in the morning (7:30 am start). The second half of the course goes down the West Side Highway to Battery Park and then up to around South Street Seaport.
That Sunday ride and start time sounds good to me!
Folks I'm on a very short tether so I can't stray any farther than Prospect.  I'll be out for a couple or three hours tomorrow if anyone wants some company.

Jules, no Branchbrook?
Jules, no Branchbrook?
The Littlest Roazen is backstage, but we can hear him tuning his guitar and the amp is set to 11 ...
(or 3cm)

Exciting news. Keep us posted.
I'm planning on a Saturday ride(slow) leaving BB at 8am
@Kayt, I usually make it from my apartment to CP west in about 35 minutes, so 7am seems reasonable. See you then. And woo! for Piermont ride. I can't make Marc's Sunday long and slow ride, so looking forward to tacking some miles onto Saturday... if you and (potential) others are down for that.
Got a flat. Might be late to the clinic, Marc!

Reminder. In addition to a normal 9am GWB ride (self-guided, no official leader as of this moment) to Piermont via the low road out and 9W back.

I'm going to be heading out at 10:30am for EITHER a slow short ride through the hills of alpine OR a long slow ride to Saddle River New Jersey (it's about 4 hours bridge to bridge). We'll make the decision depending on the group who shows. My personal preference is to go long, but a)I don't live in Brooklyn and b) I do want to show Brooklyn members an interesting alternative to doing a "River Road" only ride.

Thanks Marc for a great ride today!  It was my first time doing the "worm-hole" and most definitely will not be my last.  I really enjoyed the climbing and it was a perfect pace for a good long endurance ride.  I will most likely be hitting the sheets early tonight :-)

Thanks again!!

Thanks to Julie, Joshua C, and Tim for joining me on one of my slow group rides to Upper Saddle River New Jersey. It was chilly, but we kept moving and by the end of the ride winds had died down and the "feels like" temp increased pretty dramatically. Tim was riding steady and strong all day long, Joshua attacked all of the climbs and Julie crushed us all on the steepest climb of the day. She reports like the short punch climbs, so will be putting the hurt on Harlem Hill in Central Park for sure! Very impressive power. She'll be a great addition to the women's team.
Who's excited about a Sunday ride that stops in Piermont to watch the end of MSR? ME.

Also, if any of you brainiacs can figure out when it might end, we could time our ride accordingly to watch the last 45 minutes or so.
@Jeff - I'm in for that one. I love the last 45 minutes of that race. La Primavera!
