Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Hey David,
I feel totally responsible for that crash this morning on the west side bike path. There was no excuse for me not pointing out that divider. I noticed it at the last second but had my hands full trying to swerve around it. I guess I'm not to comfortable squeezing through tight spaces but nethertheless I'm so sorry! I definitely learned the importance of calling things out.

And back in Brooklyn right after saying goodbye to Therry I got pulled over by cops on 5th ave and Bergen for tippy toeing my way across a red light on a one way street with no cars and pedestrians crossing the empty road. This is my first ticket ever hopefully someone experienced can give me a few pointers on what to do next.
@Renat no worries, buddy. I should have been paying more attention anyway. Just some road rash on my arm and an excuse to turn around early.
Thanks for the tow up the west side this morning Kissena. I rode the rocket and got in 96 miles with 5000ft of climbing... which made my weekly TSS 620.

Sup with all the bikers? I got to see the Kissena Orchards group lead out the Hell's Angels. It was sick!

Gonna be a hot summer.
Orchards rocked with the gang!  Perfect weather, didn't really get yelled or honked at, NO FLATS OR BROKEN SPOKES, 97 miles and home by 2.

TSS 877
perhaps we should write a letter to Hudson River Conservatory Trust (or whatever they are called) and tell them that those bollards cause bike accidents and whether they have actually done a study to determine that they are helpful in any way for safety. My guess is that someone just thought they were a good idea without any actual data. We could copy the DOT.

Anyone have any useful contacts. John Orcutt would be our contact at DOT (probably he could help us find the relevant person at the Trust.

Sorry to lose you so early David. It was really a lovely day and we could have used your wit and charm.
Yes, David, sorry it happened, especially after such a strong comeback yesterday, but glad you're ok.  I had a good ride of 100 miles, solo  after breaking from the group at Sparkill.  A lovely day to be out on the bike.  Good to see everyone this early AM.
95 miles for me. I fell asleep seated upright still in kit for a full hour after downing my Osmo. Acute recovery indeed.
I had to drink a red bull and an iced coffee just to walk around the neighborhood with Maria
Post-ride I did some pushups and crunches then went to crossfit and played a few sets of tennis.  No hydration.  Only ate my fingernails.

I only did 65. But hailed down 9w after hitting clsusland. I has a beer and overhauled my pedals.
^please continue and expand on your activities^
Double fist shake to have missed this epic ride and then to hear about (and and then see the aftermath of) Yang's crash.

Folks, if you are new to the club, and haven't read this, please consider it MANDATORY READING.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RIDER BEHIND YOU

@Vladi this isn't about pointing fingers - but since Yang paid the tuition in blood, we should all try and learn from it.

I had a personal sized cherry pie at the orchards and my TSS was 9 million
If my TSS reflected all the kilometers of the Giro I watched, I'd take off this week, and head to the Dauphine to show Froome a thing or two.

Khan!
I had a personal sized Rhubarb pie at the Orchards and my TSS was Jamacian Bobsled, mon. Is 877 hard? (I'm still figuring all this metric nonsense)
Yes, impossibly so, but in our case 877 is fake.
Explain.
I have no idea what TSS is I just posted that.
Training Peaks explains TSS best

Of note:

This allows any endurance athlete the ability to quantify their workouts based on their relative intensity, duration and frequency of workouts.

  • You earn 100 TSS for an all out, 100%, 60-minute workout. Of course most workouts are not completed at 100%, so most workouts will accumulate less than 100 TSS per hour.
  • You can earn more than 100 TSS within a single workout (as long as it is longer than an hour), but never more than 100 TSS per hour.
  • Think of intensity as an RPE value on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the hardest. If you exercised at a level 5 for two hours, then you would accumulate 50 TSS/hour or 100 total points. It wouldn’t matter if you were training for the Tour de France or to simply complete your first triathlon.
My 5:40 long ride today came in at a TSS of 299, that combined with The Tour of Somerville, TT workout, Thursday Floyd, and 2 Watermelon Crit races yesterday gave me a cumulative TSS of 620 for the week (which is one of the highest I've ever posted).

So Owens' 877 makes him full of shit, but come on, that's why we love him.

No doubt JP, you missed a good one today. Some fun was had on the climbs, but Dale, in his quiet Southern way, kept us in line for plenty of double paceline pro-style on the flats and rollers. JP, I took a page from your book and for those who rode with me and Jeffs and Garrigan a few weeks back, I made sure the return trip had some different turns to ensure total confusion. But also fun.
so i got out at 5.30 to do a Peirmont ride. what fun! I think getting up early pays off when it means racing down flatbush with few cars in the way and also racing over Brooklyn bridge without anyone but the construction workers taking the view
OMG No one told me there were pies at the Orchards! Sorry to hear about the crash, but will hopefully see some of you tomorrow at Skillz & Drillz to hear more about these pies.

While we're whipping out our TSS (which, prior to this conversation I'd never really understood) my cumulative for this week is 1280. I need a vacation.
What? You went 100% all out for 13 hours this week? Maybe you should try to understand it harder.

Note: Since TSS is based off your threshold and respective zones its possible you have different zones set which skew the score.
@vlad 64% for 20 hours sounds about right.
20 hours of training on the bike this week? Wow.
@Erika Tarte‌ the way TSS works is to take your intensity factor and square it then multiple by time. 64% would barely be .6 IF giving you 36 TSS per hour. That would result in 720 for 20 hours.
@erogot, my misunderstanding of how the percentages work. I managed 20hrs on the bike this week, all at an endurance to low-tempo intensity factor (some .75s, some .86s... all averaging about .8) which comes up with 1280 based on the formula you shared.
