phew! that was fun...brisk ride w/8+1 kissena s gwb to piermontNY. Think I like idea of teaming, can imagine significant impact on a race IF one were to have a powerful pacelibe to. Push the peleton into VOmax&beyond then release johnM for a killer spri t finish! Thanks guys;>
Good fun on the Family Man's Ride too. Jorge, Jeff & I rode that monster north wind up to Nyac in record time, then hitched our train to a Man-Beast in Liquigas kit. Man-Beast's name escapes me, but when he went to the front it was like riding behind a freight train, complete with screaming steam coming out the top of our heads.
The White-Road home took us down Lexington in record time as well, and things were looking good for an 11am return until the Manhattan bridge detour took us through the heart of Chinatown and Jorge caught a Freddy-Kruger style slash to his front tire... the fix took us as far as Atlantic & Hoyt before we heard the wounded tire blow out again. We all just shook our heads and muttered, "Chinatown..."
Mmmman-Beast was a middle-aged Polish guy named ... Ravek? Doesn't matter. He's Man-Beast. He said he stopped racing because "they threw me out of the 4s," which I interpreted to mean he got forcibly upgraded. Never been behind anything like that in my life. Had to peg 500 watts for 25 seconds just to get back into line when he pulled through me. Also, I think he CAUGHT OUR THREE-MAN PACELINE FROM BEHIND, which is just crazy talk because we were hauling.
Cheers all. Great posse out riding this am—Kissena represent! Mugwump sporting his banged up leg (gutsy stuff). Good fast tempo up to the ol' missile silo. Not sure where the climbing form came from, perhaps guzzling chocolate milk and chowing down on ice-cream pays dividends after all. Family guys were smart to go early as we all got thoroughly dowsed on the Upper WS. Looking forward to Tuesday FBF.
The weekend looks to be afoul with rain. I'm taking an unexpected lax work schedule to make way for Piermont tomorrow (Friday), 7am BB, 8am GWB.
I'll be seeing what sort of time-trial I can manage up Alpine Drive. Got to get to the office eventually, so can't hilly-hally around too much (that is, sorry to say, no repeats), but will stop for espresso at Bunbury's. Other than stopping for fast coffee, the ride will be fairly quick.
Damn. I was hoping to don a large windbreaker at the bottom of the Alpine climb, catch monster tailwind and throw down a 3:50 team record thus shattering the dreams of all contenders...

Posted By: eragotCLINICS - I want to start helping people help themselves to the awesomeness that is CX. I usually give around 2-3 formal "come learn to do CX" clinics a year and tons of informal ones. The CX season is starting up next weekend (in Mass) and in two weeks or so in Pennsylvania (where many of us will be).
So, for those of you who want to learn the secrets of CX and get in a decent ride as well, I will hold the first KCC CX clinic on:
SATURDAY, AUGUST 27. Meet at GAP at 7am. Ride to Cunningham Park in Queens. 8am Roll out of Cunningham Park (meet in parking lot near tennis courts). Ride to MTB trails and cruise around them for a while. Then to the fields for dismount / remount practice, cornering practice, shouldering and running practice, race strategy discussion, simulated race. All fun stuff. Ride back home.
If anyone wants to bring barriers, cones or other equipment, they would all be useful. Josh Ceasar's parents live very close so we can store stuff there (he offered last year, he may rescind that, but then he'd be a rat bastard).
For those of you who want to just meet at Cunningham - post or email that you will be there so that we wait if necessary or contact you if we flat or something along the way.
If you need directions, use this link to find Cunningham and then type in your address and change to bike directions:http://maps.google.com/?ll=40.729865,-73.77322&spn=0.002077,0.005284&t=h&z=18&vpsrc=6&iwloc=lyrftr:h,6921801701194212179,40.729795,-73.772764
What to bring: Water bottle (there is a fountain at Cunningham, so you can refill) Helmet CX bike extra tube a healthy dose of humility if you're new as it takes a leap of faith to leap back on the bike a sunny disposition as there are no downers in cross
Any questions? Post them here, otherwise start planning.
JP I'm probably up for something that fits that description on Saturday. Depends a little on Friday night, I have a thing I'm sort of obligated to attend that could keep me out pretty late.
Nice ride to Piermont this morning and went down to do Alpine. Be warned that the gates are closed after the first couple of miles, due to all the crap on the road. It's just a bunch of sticks and leaves and the odd rock which my friend double flatted on. Recommend you avoid running the gauntlet.
