Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Anybody riding tomorrow?
Come race the L&C, still plenty of room for day of reg.
Good ride up to the Orchards with Anthony (he had never been). On the way back we got a new appreciation for the term “isolated thunderstorm” in Piermont. It was dry by the time we got to the Market. Oh, and I got to test out my new GoPro in anticipation of riding in the alps. I have to ask Kevin for pointers

Early bird pricing for the Twin Lights ends tonight: https://www.bike.nyc/events/twin-lights-ride/ The ride is on Sept 22. Sign up now!

If you're not already familiar, the Twin Lights is a pancake flat course in the NJ highlands. You can take a ferry from Pier 11, which means it's probably roads you haven't ridden too often. I've already signed up for the 100 mile route (and ferry).

Last year I was towed along by a bunch of older and stronger guys and flew along the course in just over 5 hrs. It was great fun going that fast for so long, I'm looking for more Kissena jerseys so we can fly around the Highlands again in Sept.
Hey Folks,

I'm moving home with my parents near Bedford, NY in a few weeks due to some personal reasons. On the bright side, I'm going to be a lot closer to the gravel haven that is Putnam County! Would be glad to coordinate some rides for those gearing up for CX season.
Anyone interested in a 7am start from BB tomorrow? Believe @Kevin Man  @JohnOlsson are both in...

Ready to rock and roll! If there's more racers coming in we can practice some cool drills too!
I’ll meet you guys at the GWB at 8
I'll be at the GWB at 9am tomorrow, Bastille Day.

Happy to do either the traditional or wander some wormhole.  My goal will be to get back to the GWB around 12:30.
We had 8 or so out. Beautiful day. Anthony (soon to be repeat State TT champ :^) pipped Ricky on Alpine.
A rider crashed on bridge after his front wheel went into a rut in a broken piece of concrete (right near the awesome 8-ply boards bolted to ground). We couldn't pass while the EMTs worked on him. Jersey police officer: "that's what happens when you ride those low profile tires in New York City". I know, you're thinking how could they say that when we were obviously in NJ! It gets better... Rocking a cervical collar the EMT's have him climb over the highway railing to get to ambulance. :#
Nice to get out

Are you going to do the Haute Route or something?
Ricky, Will, ex-Kissena Marc Bertucco, and moi headed out from the GWB.

First was River Road.

As we rode north, we were told someone had crashed.  Several people let us know.  Sure enough, about a mile from the foot of the Alpine hill, a guy was bloody and surrounded by people.  Full-on tri' rig, he had been in his bars and went over them, smacking his face on the pavement.  Marc, being an ER nurse stopped for a look.  He was up and lucid, but had been out for at least a few seconds according to friends, so there was no way he should have started riding again.  But the ambulance had been called and no police, no ambulance.  It was so slow, one of the friends called his wife to come from the city.  We started up again at least 15 minutes later and still nothing.  And as we rode up Alpine, three cop cars were headed down.  It gets to a question--is this the proper response from police? If not, should we say something?  But if we say something is their answer going to be to close the road?

Ricky headed back--short on time.  The rest of us went north, working a wormhole from Sparkle up to New City and then Monsey before coming back.  Weird thing--my wahoo said we did 3800' of climbing, TrainingPeaks 3500', and Strava 3300'.

Two stops for water.  About right for such a day.

I need to help my dad with some housework this upcoming Sunday in Rockland so I figure why not ride up. I plan on leaving from BB at 7 for anyone who wants to join and head straight up to Rockland Lake, probably do a few laps (temperature dependent since it's supposed to be real hot) and then swing off and continue on my way

@Matt Budofsky I'll join you. I also have a co-worker visiting from Helsinki who brought his bike and will join us as well. He's a very experienced, solid rider.

It's going to be hot, so going early is a good call.

Anyone else?

I can’t get out on Sunday, but will definitely be out and about tomorrow morning! There was talk of Harriman, but dfw
I could be convinced for an early ride up to bear and back
Like I mentioned on look sharp, I'll have a car tomorrow, so was thinking on driving upstate and then riding around 80 to 100km.

Leaving Brooklyn at 7am.

Will have room for one more rider.

Harriman is a simple, easy, perfect go to. Might draw a rwgps route in a little bit and post it here.

Let me know if interested. Specially if you wanna drive up with me. Text me if easier: 347.225.1058

What time do you think of coming back? I really need something else than yet another 9W ride...

this is the route I am thinking...
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30604186

Includes the infamous bear - to seven lakes - palisades interstate - seven lakes bit, but simply:
  • start at Lake Welch
  • head North East to Bear Mountain
  • descend
  • head West
  • do the little seven lakes - palisades - seven lakes intersection (not for bikes, but often used)
  • West side loop
  • Bear race loop
  • Done
Dotan, if we leave Brooklyn 7am, we would start riding around 8:30am, back aprox 2 to 3pm.

Depending on if anyone or who is coming, I might leave earlier, shorten the route, or change it for more shade. Happy to discuss.
Sounds great. I'm in. I have a bike rack that fits 3 bikes (The bike rack came with a car we totaled in Feb). @RobertMullen , do you have car as well? Perhaps others would like to join
@eloy

I wish.

But you've gotten me thinking.  Now I want to see if I can get a car to do the Ho-Ho-Kus Loop (we did it together ages ago) on Sunday.  75 miles, lots of climbing.  Haven't done it in at least a few years.
I remember that ride, easily over 10 years ago, would love to do it again, let’s find a weekend and go ride it!!
I actually have to be back in BK earlier than I thought. I’m still going to ride but probably won’t be able to make a trip by car up north

Same with me. I'll join you if you want some company.

Awesome. Let's meet at my place 6:45am.

417 - 11th Street (Corner of 6ave) Brooklyn 11215. My phone is 347.225.1058 What is yours?

-- do not bring the bike rack. do bring kissena kit, some clothes for the drive back, and tons more water and food than what you think you'll need.

Let's go ride bikes!
@RobertMullen and @Joe Matunis what time are you heading out tomorrow (Sat)?  Would be cool to meet you guys at GWB.  Maybe around 8:30?  Let me know what makes sense.
In to meet you guys at the bridge whatever time you’re planning on rolling

Would it be possible to meet at GWB at 7:30? It's early, but more time to ride before it gets crazy hot.
