Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Nice turnout for the first skills clinic of the year. JP lead everyone through bumping drills, pacelines, cornering, and emergency stops on a super hot day. John M helped with some pro tips.

Good to see everyone eager for group riding and racing. Unfortunately Dave Yang broke his wrist in a freak fall before we even got started. Heal quickly!

Gonna roll up to nyack (maybe a bit further depending how the legs feel and timing) tomorrow morning. 7am Brooklyn bridge, 8am GWB. RSVP here if joining and vaccinated
sweet. i'm in.
Meet you at GWB
In as well

I’ll try to make it!
I’ll be at GWB 8am

That ride was a ton of fun. Thank you guys for your patience as I tried to catch up after every hill! Definitely a great reminder of why I love riding bikes
Dude, it was so much fun! First group ride over the GWB for me in like a year and a half and I genuinely forgot how fun it is to just keep pushing each other
That was great fun indeed! And we made it to Nyack before the donuts sold out.
Same, first group ride in so long. That was great. Can't wait for the next one.
Just throwing out an idea to gauge interest - I have off Friday as some others may and was thinking of taking the train to New Canaan or Peekskill and doing 65ish miles. Would anyone else be interested?

This is a great gravel loop.
any trail rides planned for this weekend/sunday - stillwell, etc?
I hope to go tp Cunningham with the mountain bike on Sunday. 8:30 ish
Anyone wanna join me on a ride to Bear on Sat?
Hey all!

Anyone up for the Sunday Traditional?

9am GWB and head north?

I need to be back at the bridge by 11:30, but after that, don't have any limitations.

Yep. It was a really fast group. Picked them up on 9w in Alpine and road with them there and back. We picked up James at the top of Bear and he road back with us. It was fun.
Eloy, James, myself met up at the GWB at 9:04 to venture north as a group.  I wanted to be back at the GWB by 11:30.

* Wasn't sure if Eloy and James would go shorter or longer.
* waited til 9:10.
* while we kept to the traditional route, so busy talking barely noticed.
* a Trek service truck was on 503 servicing someone who just seemed to be there.
* a few minutes later, we saw a huge group moving single file.  Probably was supporting the group.
* had time to climb Clausland.
* stopped at the deli at 9W in Sparkill.
* when we started, it was looking like 11:40 at the GWB.
* kept up the pace and chatter until Stateline.
* Eloy sent us ahead at Stateline.
* Usually uncomfortable dropping people,
* But I've had my days when I just didn't want to go hard any longer.
* James was looking good.
* We passed several people before the scout camp.
* Three jumped on.
* They and no interest in pulling.
* Another three we caught shortly after stateline.
* they wanted to ride.
*rotating paceline.  Six guys.
* Sweet speed!
* As we passed the last light before Englewood Cliffs, a chunky guy who hadn't been working suddenly tried to muscle me off one of the faster guys wheel.
* I didn't say anything, but I didn't let him.
* As we took the dip by CNBC, it was clear the group had a sprint line in mind.
* Turned out it was a hydrant after the gas station.
* On Hudson Terr, I realized we'd be at the GWB at 11:25.

Thanks so much to Eloy and James.  I can't speak for them, but I really needed this, both the social and the effort.  I think one of the difficulties of racing right now is so little time spent riding hard in a group.  I can ride hard on my own, but the sensations of riding hard in a group are quite different.

more.

more.

agree; more.

topics of note:
-the cultivation of tan lines!
-descending skills
-crosswind / echelon on 9w, though too brief before we were joined by others
was definitely fun! my lack of fitness and a hard work week had me wishing for a more mellow pace on the way back — little by little fitness moving slowly in the right direction

good thing too, as a big piece of glass caused a flat

Do those legs look "unfit" to any of you? Yeah, me neither.

Anyone up for a group thing on Saturday?  (I can't do Sunday)

I've got to drop off a kid first, but I can be at the bridge by 10:20.  Would love to do anything, but am pining to finish up on 9W and hammer south to the Bridge.  I know routes.
i'm up for a group ride on saturday.
Same here!
I can be at the Jersey side of the GWB at 10:20, regardless of weather.
Will be there
Will be there as well.
