A group ride!? First in forever for me. Started showery and soggy and then clouds parted. Eloy turned around early to get in a run (hope that wasn't due to the ripping tempo mate—overexcited). Nigel, JP, Matt and James peeled off to do Orchards and beyond. Sam and I Tweeded into Piermont for some resupply/repairs. Look forward to another. Oh and Matt dropped big watts to take state line. Solid! HB!

Great birthday ride for Matt! It rained at the start but the day turned into a warm summery one by the time we reached Tweed. The humidity crept up and up. JP and Nigel kept the pace high on the return, with a climb up Speer Ave. tacked on at the end.

There was a recently fallen tree a mile or two before the state line sprint, blocking the entire road. Traffic was backed up so it must have just happened. A couple of drivers were attempting to move the tree trunk and branches. Kissena lept into action and cleared the road.

It was an awesome Bday ride! JP took us on roads I'd never ridden before and it was definitely a better route than what I typically take to the Orchards. Loved being able to spend the morning riding Eloy, John, JP, Nigel, Sam, James and Eloy!!

Great ride.

As Nigel noted after we helped clear the road, 'don't honk at us.'  Maybe this small act of help will change a few drivers' minds about cyclist.

Or not.  

Great ride, I had so much fun.  Just as an FYI, good lord that tree must have been covered in poison ivy because my arms have it all over. 

Not sure what kind of tree it was, but common invasive stuff like wisteria is poisonous too though more mild and less irritating on the skin than poison ivy/oak/etc.

Weather permitting, I'm gonna do an early send to Bear (leaving Brooklyn at 6:30 since I need to be home early afternoon). Route is still TBD- debating between a straight shot up 9W or head up to orchards and keep going north from there. Let me know if you wanna join!

@Matt Budofsky I keep getting flash flood alerts for Friday night through Saturday afternoon. I'd love to go but think I'll hold off til Sunday to ride. If you push to Sunday, let me know. 

Yeah gonna be very dependent on weather. Sunday I’ll be at the cross clinic!

@Matt Budofsky ah gotcha. Well if anyone wants to ride Sunday, I'm planning a long ride (that includes Bear) with about 11k of climbing. I'd enjoy the company! 

Nigel go buy a cyclocross bike. Do it today. Join us Sunday and then for the full cyclocross season.

@eloy haha, it kind of sounds like I might have to. Any recommendations without breaking the bank? I'm not very up on cyclocross tech.

Yes, you can occasionally see it through worn spots.  When the illegal section was legal, they had the bricks exposed on the switchbacks.

BTW, I was in Jersey yesterday, I should have mentioned River Road was closed.

But the bigger thing is that Fort Lee, Englewood, Tenafly, Cresskill were all a mess.

Lots of dirt, clay, and gravel on the roads.  A few bridges were blocked off--a tiny one, like fording a stream 8' wide was taped off as Englewood officials were concerned about the structural integrity of it.

ANd I saw three abandoned cars.  Two of them just sitting in the middle of not-empty streets of Englewood.  They had orange cones on them, no blinkers.  Just sitting.

Will be messy for a while.

Was there today, the west side had a couple of downed trees and the “How the west was won” segment was a bit flooded — the east side was fully rideable
