I'd like to but the forecast says it's gonna rain all day
Thunderstorms and 85% chance of rain the entire day... meh. I'll check again before I go to bed but I have low expectations
It's a zwift kind of day...
It's a zwift kind of day...
Was feeling a little under the weather, so today I rode just a few zwift minutes. The new climb portals btw are super cool. Also, btw, former kissenista, David Gardiner, rode the Uber Pretzel: 142km!! 4:45!!
I was setting up for the 9am GWB meetup, when it started pouring at 8:30.  I decided to postpone a bit.  Got out some 40 minutes later.  As I rolled away from my place, I realized I had left my blinky light at home.  Three cyclists were coming back from Jersey as I crossed the GWB.

Drizzling at the start, then moderate rain, then it stopped.  It was so heavy and warm at the halfway point, I was looking for it to start raining again.  Three more cyclists were doing laps at Rockland Lake.

And it did.  It was a full-on downpour at the most dangerous point of the ride, descending Tweed to 9W.  The downpour continued until I climbed back into Jersey on 9W. And then just rode the heavy rain home.

Save the darkness of the downpour and the sketchiness of the Tweed descent, it was actually a pretty nice ride.

Those cyclists were the only riders I saw all day.

Saturday headed to Piermount via Bradley with Jeff and Patrick , bumped into Nial and Scott , Coffee and back home ,hot one out there

Sunday got lucky with the rain and did 2 hours at Cunningham
Anyone want to do a Wormhole ride on Sunday?
@mugwump Idk what a wormhole is, but yes i'm looking to ride this sunday!
I’m looking to ride sat and Sunday

1. Synchronize 2 relatively accurate wristwatches at the beginning of the ride.
2. Give one to your loved one who will stay at home, and strap one on to yourself.
3. Go on wormhole ride.
4. Come home.
5. Compare watches and note the time.
6. They will be exactly the same.
7. You will have had an enjoyable time getting semi-lost in Bergen/Rockland County.
Down for wormhole but may need to split off early
I’m in for Saturday!
I'm down for chill tomorrow and wormhole on Sunday.
Sounds like people are thinking GWB Sunday for wormhole. I’m in and will pack appropriate food this time.

What’s the deal tomorrow? I was gonna do 90 mins of intervals early morn but will join something chill if it’s happening!
I’d like a 90 minutes interval thing tomorrow morning, but I’m going to watch the world cup match tonight so I don’t want to to too early 😅
I'll be at GWB at 9.
Tomorrow Sunday July 23rd. 8am Brooklyn Bridge. 9am GWB -- see you all and the worms then.
See you then
We went to Bear Mountain , it was closed , and will be for about 2 weeks

See you then
A quick note, if one needs to do intervals or a specific workout, the norm is that you start the ride with the group and then peel off and go do the workout. This is how pros/elite riders do most group rides.

Alternatively, if the ride is hard enough, that's the workout, no need to add any intervals pre or post. Your mileage will vary, do what works for you.
a few photos from the wormhole
Thanks for the pics.

I feel badly about yesterday.   It didn't shake out the way I had intended.

The ride I had in mind starts out on busier roads and works its way to less busy, and there's a ten-mile stretch or so of stop-free riding, including a bunch of miles that feels like riding in a ravine. and then takes a quiet way back to Englewood.

We tackled the Riveredgeberg, a stiff cobbled climb (Brian got 11th on Strava, for an effort that he probably wasn't thinking about--a bunch of the top 10 efforts were set by Kissena members, including the KoM).  We got coffee in Ridgewood, right by the bike shop.   Climbed Crest road, which has a supervista at the top--can see back to Midtown NYC as well as to 9W.  Then Eloy, Brian, and Grant felt short on time and headed back just as things were getting interesting (saw the route they took back; about the least interesting, most direct way home--with a few turns, their return ride would have been much nicer).

David, Matt, and I continued on, as per plan.  Matt turned left in Oakland, we went right.  After the ravine, we were confronted by a traffic jam.  Turns out, the county pool ahead of us was filled to capacity and county police had to turn people away.  AFter that, back to quiet roads through Mahwah, Ramsey, Saddle River, and Ridgewood.

David is getting stronger, quite a bit stronger.  But by Englewood, he was cooked.  He took an outdoor shower behind Strictly, cooled off as best he could and decided if he stayed any longer, he'd have to take a nap (a group rolled in while we were chilling; one guy's jersey was an enormous salt stain).  David said he was goign to get in a cab in Washington Heights.  Hope it made it back ok and did some serious core chilling at home.  Going beyond one's boundaries is can be a good thing, but it seems like David went beyond merely going beyond.

I wish we had conferred.  A little talk, and perhaps I could have convinced the three to go a few miles longer, and we would have cut out the ravine section and taken a fun way home, possibly saving David from his meltdown.  Not that it could have been predicted.

Here's my ride.

Ahhh, really wanted to join this one but I failed to properly set my alarm - sorry if I kept people waiting at the Brooklyn Bridge!

I did the Nyack loop using the route Mark, Eloy and I rode a few weeks back, my legs felt bad on the way there but great on the way back.

Will do this ride somewhere in the next few weeks, I’ll see if I can catch that kom ;-)

Damn, yea I wish we did too. Second half of the ride was just as exposed to traffic as the first half. Live and learn.

I felt badly that we got split from David since he was also going back to Brooklyn, zoomed ahead just as Eloy signaled to turn off.

Maybe next time the inspiration strikes to do a ride like this we plan a route and share it on ridewithgps first?
Generally agree with Grant, altho something to be said about just heading out and then finding your way back.

We stopped for a quick minute in a parking lot, zoomed out on my Hammerhead Karoo's map, put a pin on the middle of "Closter Dock" and it directed us perfectly and safely there. What an awesome world to live in!

A quick note, as it sounds like more than one person struggled with the longer-ish distance yesterday. It is more of an art, and lots to consider but generally, please, kissenistas try to have a sense on how much you can or want to ride on a given day, and perhaps be somewhat conservative, specially on this crazy new summer heat reality we live in.

For example, if you brought food for 50 miles, don't expect to suddenly improvise 100, if in the past few weeks you ridden 30 miles at most on one go, don't expect to be fully comfy at 80 miles, etc, etc... we are out there for each other, but as they say, put your oxygen mask first.

This may or not involve some math, like if you ridden out 3 hours and 45 miles, well, guess how long is it gonna take to get back? "Future, 3 hours later, you" might thank you.

Also, basic: If you are gonna leave the group, turn around, whatever, or need to stop, be super clear about that intention and make sure others on the ride know it.

With love, your mileage will vary.
Bummed I missed the wormhole ride (stupid flat tires...).  It looks like it was a fun, long day out.  I hope we can make these a regular thing.

I ended up having to go back to my apartment to get a tube that would actually work.  Made it out to Piermont.  For some reason they had golf on TV instead of Le Tour.  Rode Clausland, and Bradley both ways for a good bit of climbing.  Just missed 300miles for the week.
Okay folks looks like Sunday is the more pleasant day to ride. I’ll be out for the first time in a long time and I’m 100% not kidding very slow so will be doing a chill tempo probably on River Road to Piermont or the first half of the strong guys long route wherever they’re headed.

Saturday morning I may hide in the woods and ride easy in Cunningham. Join me and maybe we’ll get something cold nearby afterwards.

I'm looking to go long on saturday and am thinking of heading up to the orchards via river road, a couple loops around rockland lake for old time sake and then backroads south through new city, climb up out of alpine back to 9w and then cruise on home.  Normal group ride pace and definitely open to route suggestions if anyone has a hankering for something specific.
Sounds good!
btw, on the cobbled climb, that was fun, and too noticed that Brian got on the strava leaderboard, and made me wonder if we could get the KOM if we tried
