btw, on the cobbled climb, that was fun, and too noticed that Brian got on the strava leaderboard, and made me wonder if we could get the KOM if we tried
Was thinking of going back and testing on my own.

We'd have to be riding fast going south on Kinderkermack, and turn hard right into the hill.

Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure the KoM was set by then-kissena REne Herrera on a ride with me and Jeff Owens, where we took multiple KoMs.  I think we attacked the hill the same way we did Sunday.
We should go for it! It may be seen as taking the easy way out but if you stick to the left side at the start of the climb and stay on the cement, not the cobbles for the first bit, we'd definitely save a little bit
Need to cancel my Sunday ride and will join the Saturday ride. High possibility of turning around earlier while Matt and co go long.
I’ll be at GWB at 9am Saturday
I'll be at the GWB 9am SUNDAY.

Open to whatever.  I'd like to make it at least as far as Piermont.
Fun morning ,upstate at Port Jervis watershed park
I'll be riding tomorrow, 8am at BB. River road to bradley tweed anyone?
Good day for a ride

Actually not gonna be able to make it :-(

@GrantSeltzer everyting ok?

I was at the bridge waiting.  I hadn't checked the DL in the morning.  But it wasn't a problem; I was yakking and only waited til 9:15.

It was a super-nice day out.  Took the gravel back from Rockland Lake.  Saw there's a bike shop in the old South Nyack police station.  Ended up rolling hard on 9W home--I went hard up the two hills into NY state, picked up someone on the second hill and he and I took turns until E Clinton.

@mugwump Passed by you headed the opposite way right under the tappan-zee underpass. Couldn't agree more, one of the best weather days NYC has had in a while. Got a late start waiting for a friend this morning. Headed up to Boxer to grab a donut (or two) and then scooted on back. Low and slow today but was nice to enjoy the ride

Its called the Coffee Ride cafe , great coffee , pastries and even mini cokes with cycling on the TV , Super nice people , you can even get a massage upstairs :)

good ride out on saturday despite the heat. We made our way to Piermont where we promptly got pulled over for riding 2 wide and rolling through a stop sign. Dave used his gift of gab and eventually the cop sent us on our way with a warning.

After coffee Dave and Jeff turned back, Lennart, Pat and I continued north. We went up Mountainview Ave and worked our way to Rockland Lake. At the lake Pat turned back for home, Lennart and I rolled a lap of the park and then made our way to the orchards.

Once we got to the orchards it was hot hot hot. We took a while to cool off, get some food and drink in us and then worked our way back home. We traded some pretty solid pulls along the way and were making good time. We climbed up through Alpine and I had given Lennart a heads up that it sucks. By the top we agreed it's not that terrible, just terrible by that point in the ride. Despite being pretty empty, we rolled down 9w and caught a few people along the way. At the light he turned towards the bridge and I turned for home- both of us ended up with about 90 miles in the legs for the day. It was definitely another ride where being prepared for the heat was essential but I think we did a pretty good job all things considered.
It was a nice ride indeed! It did leave me completely empty, despite the ride not even being super hard or far. I think I drank enough, but I just couldn't eat enough sugars. Gels aren't that tasty anyway, but eating soup-temperature gels with this heat is just terrible. Decided to take the A train back into Brooklyn instead of adding another hour of riding from GWB. It's not even faster, but oh it was so nice after all that heat.

GWB tomorrow at 9am.  Probably something like like Bradley Tweed or Orchards.
I expect to be at the GWB at 9am.
See y'all tomorrow, BB at 8
We had: Brett, Carlton, Grant, Greg at the bridge.

We did River Road, then 9W, around Clausland Clockwise, a break at Piermont and then 9W home.

A bit of confusion as Brett and Carlton rode a hard pace up River Road and didn't fork left at the median, taking them to the highway.  The rest of us didn't see them, so we rode hard north to catch them.  When we didn't make the catch by stateline, we knew something was up.  Waited at the market and reunited there.

Another hard effort up Bradley Tweed and then dropped down to Piermont for a drink.  Picked up ex-Kissena (from the mid-90s) Darren Jeffries.

On our way back, since someone was talking about it, we detoured to the Columbia Earth Institute climb rather than climbing back into NJ on 9W.  Then rode a decent pace back to the bridge.

I don't know if we intended to ride as hard as we did.  It wasn't brutal, but it wasn't easy.  I contributed to the problem on 9W.  When we were on the first hill back into Jersey, Photographer Marco Quezada passed us on the wheels of some fast guys.  While I like seeing friends going well, I kind of like to keep up.  When I saw he had left his compatriots behind, I wanted us to catch him, which spurred me to ride a brisk pace on 9W.  Hope that was ok by the others.

@mugwump Thanks for the recap! Was a fun first group ride for me.

One addition: I got a flat toward on Riverside Dr--but fortunately with our minds / pieces of equipment combined, we fixed it and got home safe :).

photo credit to @GrantSeltzer for remembering to take a pic sometime during this ride

Following up post Wormhole re @mugwump:

I really enjoyed the Wormhole ride. I was feeling really strong and worked to stay near the front. I missed when Grant and Eloy and others peeled off, but was feeling strong and wanted to push myself so kept going with JP deep into NJ.

I hit the wall hard on the way back down to GWB from the wormhole and had to pace myself slow, but after a pit stop at Strictly for a cold coke and a rinse off in cold water I was feeling good enough to head back over the bridge. I was considering getting a cab home from Washington heights, but once I got back on the bike and had a breeze cooling me off I felt a lot better and did Zone 2 all the way home to south Brooklyn. Ended up doing 98 miles!

In retrospect I think it was the heat and sun that really got me. I regularly ate, felt strong, and got home okay, but by the time I got back strictly I felt so tired and hot. The cool off and breeze really helped.
I'm going to go straight from the race on Saturday (i'm not racing) up across the GW, can't ride on Sunday.
@GrantSeltzer  We're doing a New Member ride in PP on Saturday after the race.  I'm happy to join you after if you wanna do a long day out.
@GregHoge Ah ok, let's do that!
Anyone doing a Sunday ride? Felt like shit today but should be ready to go tomorrow. I’m feeling something traditional (no wormhole) like RR to Market and back on 9W.

If I don’t hear back from anyone I’ll probably do that route, but get to BB and GWB later in the day.
@DavidVibert no track racing tomorrow?
Oh shit! Completely forget. Just registered with ten minutes to spare, thanks! See some people at the velodrome tomorrow maybe!
Probably going to head up to CT (Stanford or New Canaan) on Sunday morning for some easy riding. Will take a train around 7/7:30 and get back around 2-3 most likely.

Comment in thread if you want in! NOTE: if no one RSVPs, I may change plans

I'm assuming mostly road riding and the 2-3p timeframe is back to Grand Central?
All road riding and I’d say 3ish back by grand central. Depends how far the group wants to go etc but that’s around when I’m back usually
