Is this still a thing?
Is this still a thing?
Usually.

I needed to get back by 11, so I left early.

Others of the usual set seem to be either going to CUnningham or taking a break.

Fun times @eloy had his camera has always for the cool shots , lots of bugs
Anyone up for a group ride in Greenwich on Labor Day? I'm discovering roads by my new place and there's some fantastic routes. It'd be metro north to Greenwich with some good places to stop along the way, and we can hang at my place afterwards. Here's a sample route (we can make it longer too) https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44261105
Brett and I are doing a long ride tomorrow up into CT.  ~97 miles.  Ride up, train back.  Come join us!

8am @ BB, 9am @ GWB

@GregHoge

I'm going to be at the bridge at 8:50 to meet up with a group that's probably riding out Saddle River way, probably about 4hours or so from the GWB.  They typically like to ride tempo the whole way.  You're (and everyone) is welcome to join, so long as you respect their conventions--Ride safe, don't attack anyone, be polite, pull through, etc.
@GregHoge count me in for part of it. Need to be home earlyish so I’m gonna peel off at nyack
And I expect to be the GWB again on Sunday, this time at 9am.  Back in the 12-1 range.  willing to go anywhere in that time.
Might show up tomorrow if my weird neck crick loosens up by then. Peeling off early if I do.
Planning on some gentle laps around the east side of Cunningham this morning.
I'm gonna try and do GWB at 9am tomorrow, 8am BB. I need to be back in south Brooklyn around 1/2pm, so I'm probably only good for a River Road / 9W loop.
Follow up: not gonna make it tomorrow AM. Had a very annoying puncture doing the Jamaica bay loop solo today and not gonna be up for an early AM ride. Next weekend!
Here is the ride.

Dialed it back a bit for the Sunday Ride.  Saturday's ride was 82 miles and I bonked at 66, bonked climbing Stateline.  Ooof that hurt--been a while since I bonked that hard.  It took to long to get, but I got a coke on 9W by CNBC.  Really perked up after that.  If there's a next time when I bonk that hard on Stateline, I'm going to check out the gas station on Closter Dock Road.
Chilled ride with Jeff , Monday ,
we got wet and then we got hot .
Got out at 12:30 today.  Decided I hadn't ridden in Westchester in too long, so I headed for the South County Trailway.  It started raining in The Bronx, stopped when I was near Elmsford, the roads were dry back to Yonkers, then it started pouring again.

While my bike is clean and the chain is lubed, I'm looking at the forecast and wondering if anyone is heading out tomorrow.  I see 60% chance of rain at 9am.

on the plus side, it's warm enough that a wind vest is enough to stay warm, even in a blinding thunderstorm.
Few days away in the glorious Catskills
Gravel adventures , the bear got my heart rate up
On Sunday, my son and I are planning ot ride up to the Bronx River Parkway and take it from Bronxville to White Plains and back.

It's opened to bikes at 10am.  We'll probably leave at 9 and take our time.  I don't think he can keep up with our group rides yet.

For those who want to check it out.

I’ll be at the GWB at 9. Will bring my bubble cross face and white socks
Patrick I’m planning on joining. I’m slow, have mercy.
Sorry, I have to bail on the group ride this morning
I’m joking Sunday ,
Still riding if anyone is interested.
I’m joking Sunday ,
Meant to say ,joining , texting without glasses again🤣
Good times with Mark (gdi autocorrect) and Jim who took me through a forest on their plush 30mm+ tires while I was rocking 23s. My donut jersey zipper broke but I undressed at GWB and fixed it. Some random roadie zooming on to the bridge entrance t-boned a stationary vo2max rider waiting for a group ride to much commotion. I had an iced americano because #madness.

Mark is strong as hell. Jim and I couldn’t stay on his wheel when he decided to GO.

Can’t wait to chill ride again.

Oscar and I did our loop on the Bronx River Parkway.  The BRP was really, really quiet, which I don't know if that's the way it always is, or if it has to do with the season.

On the weird side, we got on the BRP at exit 1, I heard the ride starts at exit 2, because that's what the website states.  At 2, a car doing 60mph passed us.  it turned out, the police start blocking the road at exit 3, though it's officially closed at the start, so no one should be driving on it at all.

On the bad side, Oscar was a bit fatigued and daydreaming on Kimball road in Yonkers and rode into a parked car.  A guy with EMT training happened to be behind him and between the time Oscar hit the car and I got there less than a minute later, the guy was already helping Oscar, trying to diagnose if he had a concussion. He didn't think so.  I didn't think so (no damage to the helmet, no scrapes on the face).  He also cleaned his cuts, applied anti-biotic ointment and even pulled out a salty drink mix to put in his water bottle. After he was satisifed Oscar was Ok, he left.  I barely got his name.

We rode to a bagel shop a half-mile away, got Oscar a Dr. Pepper and a bagel, gave him time to finish it all, and we made our way home.

the crash was a real bummer.  Otherwise, this would have been one of his stronger 40 mile rides.
