Turned out to be a tough little group ride this morning with me, Whitey, Aly, Adam, and Craig (although Craig was time limited so he was with us only for a few early miles before turning off to hit CP).
Whitey was looking damn strong...watch out for him in the upcoming 4 races.

I rode a newly paved Alpine today. It's not Prospect Park smooth yet but such an amazing improvement. I also don't think they are finished yet as there are some rough patches including a rut a the bottom of the hill that I flatted on.

For those not racing at Harlem, I'm planning on an early morning Father's Day ride over the GWB. Shooting for BB at 6, GWB at 7, one time up Alpine, down to Piermont and back. I need to be back in Brooklyn by 10. Give me a shout if you're interested - the more the merrier.

Even an out of shape chug-a-lug like me did 5:25 tho. My best is closer to 5:10. Meaning, the fresh smooth pavement definitely helps!
Good to see Bryan and Stokes showed us a fun (painful and longer) river basin up to the observatory climb coming back.
Key to beating WDC up hills? Get him porched the night before and make sure he shows up still shit-faced!
I tried to make him puke with some hard pulls here and there but he hung tough and kept it down.

Fresh pavement definitely made me speedier. I did my PR on Alpine this morning, too. 4:47 though? Bejeebus - that's fast.

@Ashley "the official Kissena Alpine course" starts where the pavement changes at the bottom and ends at the "no passing" sign at the crest of the hill before the ranger station. And if you wanna talk shit about a smoking time, you gotta do it from a track stand at the bottom, TT style.
Yeah, the new pavement makes Alpine much faster because you never lose your rhythm and you can choose your lines up the climb rather than having the potholes choose for you.
4:47 today - previous best time was 5:13. I think today was a combination of both the road and me being faster than ever before. Another caveat is that I did not start from a track stand.
Great ride overall. The JB battle was actually not on Alpine, it was on Ash/Tweed/Nike Lane. William's hangover had taken him out after Alpine and I don't think he even contested it. Jeff hit us all with his signature "fat boy special" and got a big gap that Joe and I eventually brought back. I sucked Joe's wheel on the flatter part and then attacked him hard as the road turned up before Nike Lane.
Happy the JAWBONE is mine but I'd be more proud if it if I'd gotten William on a day that was not preceded by his falling asleep in a cab and waking up in a bed full of watermelon.
As usual, good times, good riding, good company.
