Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

I am going to try and go upstate Sunday 7:30am BB. 4 hours.
Not sure if it's the time of the year or carrying a 35 pound kid around on my back all afternoon while wearing flip flops, but my calf is starting to protest.  I'm going to take a rest day tomorrow.

I will be at the BB tom at 8 who's coming?
Aiming for GW 9am.

C'mon Jules!
Just in from a belated b-day night out -- I expect I'll be sleepin in a bit, prolly end up riding in the park in the afternoon rain.
Here's what I'm doing today...

123 miles, 11k+ ft of climbing.

Awesome!
Indeed!
11k climb report please.

Nosson and I were the sole representatives of the Kissena Sunday Ride®.

Chilled tempo to Piermont. Caught up with Strava nemesis (Canal to Vesey) David Lipscomb at the Bunburry and a couple of Aussi girls who'd been marshaling that mornings' race—apparently a lot of screaming at each other in women's races.

Saw Gardiner hammering back from his 7.30am departure. Rode to Piermont. News flash, Nosson is now a triathlete!

Muggy.
Holy crap that was hard. A different kind of hard than racing, but serious stuff in its own right.

First and foremost, just gorgeous, epic views. Nicely organized with several aid stations equipped with everything from PBJ to a wrenching tent.

We did 3 major mountain passes, the shortest being about 9 miles. The last climb starts at about mile 90 (at that point we were already cooked) and just stays steady, mostly into a headwind, at 5-6%, FOR 16 MILES.

Then we got over the top and got into one of those sudden mountain thunderstorms. Hard, pelting rain, couldn't see, shoes sopping wet, shivering cold, and rough road - tons of potholes. I could see "caution" signs but could not see far enough in front of me to know what was looming. Luckily it only lasted for 5-10 minutes and then the descent was lovely. Big party at the finish - food, massage, industry sponsors, etc.

Interesting what the altitude does. My power was down a good 25% based on comparisons with climbs of similar time and length. By the second major pass, 200w was really too much to hold. Most of our climbing was done at what i would normally call endurance power. And, basically any big acceleration made me feel like throwing up - could not recover from it.

Now that I'm sitting in my hotel room watching the Tour replay and eating potato chips, I'm a happy camper. It was cool to do something on a bike that was very challenging but without the aggro vibes of racing. It was also nice to ride with my brother the whole day. We both went good/bad at different times and were able to take care of each other on the climbs, setting tempos, encouraging each other, etc.
Ryan sounds epic. I did my solo ride with the only intention of dethroning William from his KOM at Tweed. Mission accomplished

Gardiner wants the JAWBONE

(but sorry ya'll, I'm outta town for the looming smackdown ride - you'll have to come for me another time!)
Is the Jawbone ride still happening this Sunday?

Will I play hooky from church to join?

Will I be able to pry the 'bone from William's cold, dead fingers?
Ryan has jawbone.

Mike has thimble.

Universe in flux.

jesus christ that is fast, david

Ryan (as usual) is buggering off with the Jawbone . . . I guess that's ONE WAY to keep it!

I'm in for this Sunday.  Haven't ridden in 8 days . . . getting soft, doughy, full of chocolate chips

That said, I'll bring some kind of shitty prize

Real shitty

Hmmm...sounds to me, WDC, like its a good weekend for you to have me NOT here to defend the jawbone.
the only way you can beat me is when Rumple Minze beats me first

I'll be doing a long ride on Saturday after the PP race. Who is down for a few miles in northern NJ?

I'm not racing but I'm in for the ride. What's a good time to meet?
Probably come to the park around 7:45 and we can roll out from there.
Cool. I'll meet at GAP then.
Tomorrow morning (Sat) I'm going for a ride with a few co-workers and ex-coworker plus. Manhattan side of the GWB at 8am, should be a very relaxed pace. I'm trying to get a couple of the people coming to join Kissena...

Is there a jawbone thimble etc ride tomorrow?
Not exaaaactly...Ryan has the jawbone, but if you come Mike we'll have a thimble to fight for!  So far, looks like William, D. Stokes and me.
