Also broken: the power on my block bc a transformer blew up underground and a car caught on fire!!! What a way to come home. No power for a few days. Con Ed was working on it last week. I guess they screwed something up! Neighbors got good video, so check out the news later.

First group ride with Kissena tomorrow morning, do you meet on the Brooklyn side of the bridge? I'm coming from Manhattan

They convene on the Brooklyn side of the BB.
If you are already in Manhattan, you could ride up to GWB and meet on the NJ side. Or you can wait for the group on the Manhattan side of the BB or along the Hudson River bike path. They will wait up to 10 min for the group to assemble, so I usually get impatient and  just ride up to the GWB.

Feeling like caca this morning. Gonna have to bail on this one. Don't wait up!

Nice group this morning...small group so we did a small variation of the usual route, going through "Korea Town" in Fort Lee, bombing some pretty cool descents, with quick left right turn combos before we settled into a lower road through the wealthy burbs.

David Stokes and Ben Reid were busy grinding us down on the false flat rollers, preventing me from having pleasant conversation with new member Brian Sica and Mr. Anti Anti New Kit Design Superstar Ros K. Ryan and Ros were riding comfortably enough though and I caught random words about some of the design process, including "it shouldn't work, it breaks all the rules, but it does. It's magic." Made me nostalgic for my advertising copywriting days where I'm hanging out in the Art director's office and we're collaborating on some project, shooting out ideas, banging out copy and designs.

The group split a bit, namely I had intended to go to Rockland Lake while the others were going to hit the backside of Clausland Mountain and stop for refreshment refill and then head home.

But the minute I was by myself, the oppressive humidity that has blanket the northeast for seemingly forever was draining my will to live, never mind hit the water tower climb myself on the way to Rockland lake. So I circled back a bit and cracked the elusive code of one of Keith's double secret training rides.

He showed the climb to me once, but then he went all Sith Lord Jedi Mind-trick, Men-in-Black Flashy-Thingy on me and instantly made me forget one of the hardest slogs up to the top of Clausland Mountain. Steep and switchbacky, I searched my feelings, remembered my failure at the cave, controlled my emotions and discovered this climb. Next time you climbers want a new fun way to the top of the mountain, without significantly extending your total ride time from one of the more standard Clausland Mountain rides, I'm your guy to show you the way.

The trick to this secret ride, is that you have to go the wrong way on several one way only roads, ignore a few more do not enter/dead end signs. And so, I officially christen this ride the "Keith Snyder, you're not the boss of me, switchbacks of doom" ride.

The highlight of our ride home were the towels soaked in ice water provided by the deli in Piermont. Much better option to than the cafe au le from the bakery (ok, so I've spoiled by the Swedish place on 5th Ave). Paceline on 9W was a nice way to deal with the headwind. And a brief shower on the GWB was a welcome relief to the oppressive heat.

OK, since Tokeneke has been cancelled there is a huge hole in my heart that can only be filled with a Sunday Hammerfest.  Church is out of session, the wife is upstate (no, not incarcerated) and I am free as a bird.  The kind of bird that rides a bike.

I'm thinking 9 am from GWB, but could do 10am.  Several hours, lots of climbing, etc.  I'd love to try to find some of Keith's secret paths to enlightenment.

Prospect Park, Mangoseed 16-lapper. More money ($2000) to more places (15 or 20 depending on what part of the registration page you are reading) than the holy Mengoni Grand Prix on Saturday.

Fair Haven, NJ. A big 4-corner crit. Should make the event a little safer, as folks seemed to love crashing in the old dogbone course on the straight-aways. $6500, 25 deep for Pro 1/2. That's serious kaching.

Harriman State Park, NY. Silver Mine 11.1-mile ITT. Includes a couple of "Eddy" categories too. I know a handful of you have been working on improving your TT this year, and here's your chance to work on it some more under the pressure of a race situation.

If I'm free (read, not away for the weekend), Fair Haven is very tempting, but I just don't think it's going to workout well for me right now fitness wise.
