hrm...guess I should've read the forum before leaving the apartment - Dave V. and I waited 15 minutes at the GWB for Mr. "For Shiz" before giving up and heading out. Dave and I rode leisurely on RR and when we got to Alpine he proceeded to punish me cruelly for taking two weeks off from riding. I turned around at the ranger station (no need to HTFU quite yet) and Dave pushed on. My ribs/back felt more or less ok, and the rain on the way back was actually nice (except for the hurricane winds over the bridge). Couldn't've asked for a better first day back on the bike.

Shoulda joined us. We took the rail-trail from Sparkill to Blauvelt, then wound around West Nyack to New City, over to Monsey, Pearl River, crossing back into Jersey at Rivervale. Good roads, good conversation, and a nice pace.

This was one of those great, "in JP we trust rides." Some of the roads were vaguely familiar.
I think I did nearly 90 miles in the end from my place in Brooklyn. JP set a perfect pace, and I alternated between rolling alongside him for pleasant chit chat and falling back to wheel suck for a spell so as not to get too tired. Good stuff, hopefully will kickstart my comeback process.
When we hit the 7-11 in wherever-we-were, NJ, I had a desperate craving for a pink-frosted Simpsons donut, to which I gave in, delightedly. I also had one of those weird Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough MetRx Big Colossal bars or whatever. Two things that I have never before eaten on a ride.
On the way over the BB bridge in the morning, I had to salmon against the NYC century. I'm not ready to talk about it yet. Still processing the experience. I'll open up when I'm ready.

if it's copacetic, and i can rally i'd love to join for part of the sunday ride. just to tag along up and over the GWB. i'm still under orders to keep my efforts limited, so i'd drop off once the hammering begins and spin home solo.
i haven't been on the bike in close to 2 months, save one ride on the west side with neil in early august...and it's just about damned time.
