I recommend the stop at Garrison. It is five miles north of the Bear Mtn. Bridge, but the road is pretty quiet. The one drag is there's no food by the station anymore. Keep going up 9 until you hit the food store on the left. Once stocked, go south on 9 to the first right-hand intersection, make the turn, and go downhill to the station. Then again, if you want the miles, Cold Spring is a bigger town with a nice pier.
And don't forget your MTA bike pass. If you don't have one, or if you forget, it's $5 on the train.
