Turns out my Garmin 610 wristwatch is one of the recalled units with metal backs, which explains why my wrist has been turning green. Sending it to Garmin to get the back replaced, but feel like this is also a good time for me to finally get a bike mounting GPS head unit too.

Seriously, buy a Cannondale from Ride Erika. That (Kissena) deal, service, and support is something you won't get anywhere else.

Most folks probably know about this, but its sort of new to me... it seems Piermont bike makes a decent business of selling all kinds of junk for people on ebay.  evidently people ride up with backpacks full of junk to sell, drop it off, and accumulate credit to buy bike stuff... such as one of the scott foil 30's they are selling for half price right now.   you could do a lot worse than a scott foil 30 ultegra bike for 2k$.  just sayin' .  I dont mean to shill for Piermont, but i can see the appeal of turning junk into bike credit.  it is not unlike getting your coffee card punched at Gorilla coffee, potentially addictive...

Shameless plea.  If anyone has some clear glasses or sunglasses they no longer use, I'm looking for cheap eye protection.  Can't swing anything fancy but figured someone on here might have old accessories lying around they'd be willing to part with.  If so PM me!

I just got a Garmin 500 for my birthday and want to start training with cadence and a HR monitor. Does anyone have a heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor they're willing to part with/sell?

@Graydon: I've done a bit of research and concluded that your best option for speed/cadence is the Garmin GSC10 combo sensor. Although I understand your desire to have cadence, I'm not sure how much you will get out of that particular data (power meters however do require cadence to convert torque to power). The Garmin GSC 10 has a history of crapping out (loss of speed data). I replaced mine with a Bontrager standard ANT+ speed sensor. It is a bit cheaper.

Of course, your Garmin 500 has GPS, so you don't really need a speed sensor at all - only cadence. I got the speed sensor for using the indoor trainer.

They are all overpriced, so I surfed the web to find a good deal. Same for heart rate strap. Way overpriced for what it does, IMO. Make sure you get ANT+.

a cateye rear wheel wheel speed/cadence sensor will get it done...for an hr strap find a "powercal" on ebay. It gives you hr and an estimated power figure that can definitely help you when training.  If you smooth the power reading with the garmin...and understand that it gauges perceived effort and not direct force.  It is not as consistent or accurate as a direct force...but it gets the job done.  A powercal costs about as much as a standard hr strap.  I am using my powercal strap strictly for hr since I purchased a stages power meter....that's all I got
