like . . . a bowl of ramen at a ramenya. the real shit, with pork and ginger and bamboo shoots and fancy broth. not dried instant noodles.

it is usually twice as expensive as a bowl of chinese hand-pulled noodles.

word. i'm all over that. how did i not know about this? sounds like some good fuel right there.

chinese hand-pulled noodles? rich comic territory, but i'm gonna take the high road.
to be honest, good ramen is a gigantic fat/sodium bomb

also, i tend to drink like a pig when enjoying ramen
I agree with the salt/fat bomb statement. We always tried to toe the line with that. Salty enough that it tastes seasoned to most. There are plenty of people who say the momofuku ramen is too salty but you can't make everyone happy all the time. I'll say that a bowl of ramen is one of my favorite post ride meals, especially when it's cold out. There are cheaper ramen shops out there, not instant ramen cheap but $10 bowl or so.

Any more talk of Ramen and we'll have to start a new thread... Possibly one focused on food?

@Jules I'm from St. Louis Park just outside of Minneapolis. Used to ride with the Flanders Brothers guys if you know that shop.
Ty - Welcome !

Don't worry about the food distraction too much .... this thread has deviated before - scroll up for the beard love.
@ Ty: I lived in St. Louis park! Used to train in all my freddie glory on that bike path between the lakes and Park Glen road.

@ Stearns: if you haven't had momofuku ramen, you haven't lived. Sorry to go all fanboy, but holy shit. That stuff is awsome. And salty.

As for the food thread, I'm all for it; I cooked up my best batch ever of Alan Lim's rice cakes for today's 80 miler and would love to hear thoughts on how to Momo that up.
Hi all,
Just thought id drop a message on here to say hello as I'm new to the club (and the country). Moved here from London, England a few months ago and joined the club last week with the aim of doing some group rides and races. I don't have any real race experience but I'm constantly asked why not when I ride with people so I thought what the hell. I will be racing in the cat5 field with my first race on the 18th in Prospect park and then the 24th in Central Park.
I'll be racing an old Trek 5500 from 96 and ride a s-works Venge the rest of the time. Looking forward to meeting you all and racing soon.

A
Nice. Race the old stuff train and show off on the nice. Just keep the srm on the race bike. Valuable
welcome.
data from races.
Welcome aboard Ashley,

Nice meeting you at the crit workshop, looking forward to seeing you race.

Mike
Welcome Ashley!

That is a sweet looking Venge! It is a lot of bike to live up to :)

Cheers,

J
You fucking serious, you have a Venge?!?
I believe it's called a "motherfucking Venge!"
Or the bat bike as I call it, that or the black bird, motherfuckingVenge works too though!
Thanks all, can't wait to start racing and get some experience under my belt. Anyone racing the 5s in prospect next weekend and central park the following?
Welcome to the club Ashley !

Harry and I will most likely be in the 5 race in the spring series the next two weekends (so yeah, prospect in 1 week, central in 2 weeks).
Great, if you guys get any practice laps in together let me know when ill ill come join so we can get something going.
Im going to try and get in there before work a few days this week early am (before 8am) or perhaps after work after 7pm ish.
Ashley welcome welcome!!!

I will most likely also pop in on a few 5 races from time to time this season, work schedule allowing. Looking forward to meeting you on the road! Jealous of your sweet whip ;)
Welcome Ashley!

I got a bit of a sense of your form at the crit workshop and Dave Vollbach says you are strong. I think you might crush the 5's.
I'd suggest you attack from the blocks and keep going all day. The reason I suggest this is, the only crash I've had to date (touch wood) was last year SS in the 5's; third wheel behind my own teammate going up hill (front guy did a sweeper)!
You'll also draw the strongest riders and possibly get a break going which is much safer, hopefully they'll know how to ride a paceline!

Good luck!
Thanks all, John - high fives for last Sunday!
Going from the blocks might be a little ambitious with where I'm at on threshold power at the moment but ill certainly hit it from the gun and move up to the front and see what presents itself.
Cheers
ashleyB, welcome aboard...i'll be in cat5 race ppk this weekend, plan to be out front. -h;>
Hi all,

I recently joined Kissena and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Ray DeWire. I am originally from PA, but lived in DC for two and half years with my now wife. She finished law school and got a job here so we moved to queens. We both live and work in queens so if anyone on the team lives out this way let me know. I live in kew gardens. I am a former collegiate swimmer, turned Triathlete (temporarily), turned now road racer. Currently I am a Cat3. I raced for Nation's Capital Velo Club (NCVC) while I lived in the DC area. I don't have my Kissena kit yet so if you see me riding I'll be in my old NCVC kit which is a red and black kit.

I decided to join Kissena since it was much like my last team, with an open membership and variety of teammates. I hope I'll get to meet a number of you in the coming months.

Ray
Welcome Ray!
Yo! Welcome to the club. I'm a lowly 4, but look forward to riding with you nonetheless! Josh Ceasar lives in Queens; not sure which part. You might want to check out the Triangle Ride, which is a hard training ride out in your neck of the woods.
Ray - I can get you into a medium jersey (or large) likety split if you're in the Park Slope neighborhood.
Eric (ex-attorney still married to one)
hey Ray - welcome aboard!

I live in Astoria (western side of Queens) . I do head out in your direction as well. Clayton and Charlie L live close by to you, and I believe Charlie trains in the mornings near Flushing Meadow park.
What part of Queens do you work in (also Kew Gardens?) ?

The triangle ride leaves from Little Neck each weekend (http://www.trianglecyclists.com/) and is easily accessible via Union Turnpike and other streets near you to get from Kew Gardens through Fresh Meadows & Bayside over to Little Neck.

that being said - a better option for meeting LOTS of Kissenas is to join us for some Sunday rides from the George Washington Bridge. Watch the board for people announcing rides and intentions.

Every week at 9am its fairly standard (even if no one posts) that if you show up at 9am on the Jersey side of the GWB - there will be a ride departing from there, going anywhere from 2 to 4 hours normally before returning to the bridge.
The entrance to the GWB bike path is at Cabrini Blvd and 178th Street in Manhattan. http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Cabrini+Boulevard+and+178th+Street,+New+York,+NY&hl=en&ll=40.849024,-73.941067&spn=0.006671,0.016512&sll=40.847876,-73.936424&sspn=0.006671,0.016512&hnear=Cabrini+Blvd+&+W+178th+St,+New+York&t=m&z=17

We will also have folks training each morning in Prospect Park, a weekly 11am ride Fridays in Central Park, and various other times folks are out.

Looking forward to meeting and riding with you. Shoot me a note at jcaesar.bike@gmail.com .

-Joshua
Ray,

Welcome to the club, you may know Kissena's own Jeff Owen's brother, Doug Owens, a NCVC member.

Dan
Welcome Ray!
Hi all,

Just joined Kissena and figured I'd introduce myself. My name is Craig Zolan and live in DUMBO in Brooklyn with wife and 6 yr old son. Got back into cycling last year and met Jules, Nathaniel Miller and a couple of other club members on a ride from BB last summer and figured I'd join at some point. I attended the CRCA/Kissena racing clinic a couple of weeks ago and met Mark there and rode home to Brooklyn with Thierry and figured now was as good a time as any.

I was a competitive skier through college and riding a bike was an off season activity and as a result did a couple of triathlons and a crit 20+ years ago. I'll be racing to have some competitive fun but have already determined that I'm more of an anaerobic than an aerobic athlete.

Looking forward to meeting more of you.

Craig
Welcome aboard Craig!
Welcome Craig. Glad to see recruits coming from the racing clinic.
Welcome Craig, it was nice to ride home on 5th Avenue to ourselves before the St Pat's Parade.
