Big big big...be prepared for the weather!

Direct from the mouth of Myles (he does speak, its not just godzilla laser beams) - Please make sure you bring changes of clothes for after your race and for volunteer time. Stuff to stay warm (and dry in). If you are working during the day, two sets of spare clothing are even better than one. Rain jackets, mud boots, comfy sweaters, you get the idea.
Google Translate: "It's real, real shitty out.  Perfect CX weather."

All start times and duration on bike reg are up to date. We also emailed all competitors about it.
How late are you guys going to be at the course tonight?

Rick, I don't know the answer for sure here, but I'm assuming we're all going to go off at 8am-ish, then race for anywhere between 30-40 minutes. That said, the race is won or lost in the first two laps anyway, so...be ready to rock it HARD!
Marc,

the bikereg page says 8:00 for the 4/5, 8:01 for the 35+ 4/5....30 minutes long

I was just concerned about the start times as I'm zipcar-ing it

You are all racing as 1 field at 8AM.

it's that simple.
Is anybody heading up later in the day on Sunday?

I'm racing in the first race but have to head back to brooklyn for some work related responsibilities  and to return my zipcar rental. I'd like to volunteer but would need a ride. I am free after 1230
Still here Andy and Mattie
Does anybody have a table saw that can do miter cuts?
There will be three different food trucks. Cell coverage is shit, FYI
Myles taking one for the team...
CX ain't for the faint of heart.
#backinthering!
seeking a ride tomorrow in time for the last race, the men's 3/4.  i live right off the GW bridge, 181st st and haven ave.  i will not have a bike, just need a seat in the car.  hoping to leave around 11 or 12 as opposed to 7 am.

left my cell phone with todd but will have it tomorrow morning, respond here, text (774) 219-4511 or e-mail rigby.b@gmail.com
Alex pulls through!!!
the course is awesome, now all we need is 799 people to arrive. and to take lots of pictures ! Earlier this fall Joe asked me for pictures of volunteers at the 2012 Supercross . I had to really dig to find any decent ones, most of the shots I had were racers or the course. So as you are taking all your pics and laterGraming it up (no Instagram without cell coverage, sorry), takes shots of all the random stuff please ! Racers, spectators, officials, volunteers, pizza delivery men, and everything in between. Some sort of photo contest is in the works for post race. We need good shots for next year's website !
Should anyone need a ride tomorrow (Sunday) morning. I'm leaving about 5:30 from DUMBO with Joe. As such my ride will be called a handsome cab. I have room for 2 more with bikes or anyone who just wants to come up and help out.

They can really use the help.
if you're going up today but haven't left yet, please let me occupy a seat in your car.  i have no bike and am on your way to the race, 181st st at haven ave.  would love to be around for to help, to wrench, and to possibly race the 3/4.

Are you ready for the mother of all race reports?? Oh, I don't think you are....but here goes. I get to the venue NICE AND EARLY so I would have plenty of time to get ready. I pin, and warm up, and now I'm ready to go. Its around 8 o'clock, and I don't see any action around WHAT I THINK is the start/finish line. Then, off in the distance, I hear "30 seconds!!" What?? Huh?? Holy &%$#! Now I'm sprinting down the road, ripping off my jacket, and screaming"WAIT!!!!" all at the same time. Mike says this performance earns me a nomination for call-up of the year. I find a split in the fence, throw my jacket to the ground, and spin my bike around 180 degrees just as the whistle blows. Now we're off. The first climb is a mess, with bodies, bikes, pieces of bodies and pieces of bikes flying everywhere. I get through clean on the right side....here we go. Whitey tells me I'm around 20th. Ok, some work to do. I hold that position until halfway through the second lap, when I take a sweeping right turn descent that seemed rougher than it did the first lap - mostly because IT WAS NOT PART OF THE FIRST LAP. I road through a break in the tape and clean off the course. Now I hear Myles screaming "turn around" - got it. Remember that group of ten that was about ten seconds behind me? Now they're 10 seconds ahead of me. Put a fork in me, and serve me with stuffing. I refuse to give up, but know I'm cooked, so I plod on. Last time up the climb - dropped chain to THE OUTSIDE and WRAPPED AROUND MY PEDAL. Three more pass while I curse....well above my breath. At this point I'm envisioning a cup of coffee and a copy of the Times, but I continue - 38th place. From reading reports, I know everyone has one of these days each season - today was mine. I would say all I can do is laugh, but my shin hurts too much from where I womped it with my pedal. Next week I exact my revenge.

On another note, it was a spectacular course. Well done Myles and crew. BTW, the orange spray paint was a good investment. Thanx
does anyone have a 52cm bike i can use for the KCC race? or can anyone confirm that NYC Velo's rental bikes will be available?  today they didn't arrive until later in the day.

Damn, I want another one of the muffins I was eating while putting these together.  They were good.

HAVE FUN DUDES!  Sad not to be there in person!  Save a place on the podium* for me.

@Gwynna, @Erika, @Kayt it was awesome watching you all race.  So much pedal stomping and so many happy faces.

Today was an adventure for sure; the metal barriers blew over like five, six? times and needed rescuing; real thank you's will take longer than I have before bed but this was the biggest volunteer turnout I've ever heard of from Kissena and you all made today run - if not like a well oiled machine, like a machine with enough horsepower and torque to overcome any obstacle.

I'm thinking Mustang, but possibly a Camero, but maybe this one...

Tomorrow's forecast is for freezing temps and 20+ mph winds.  "Feels like 10 degrees" kind of cold.

Bring an extra layer, perhaps two.

Also, when I arrived this morning at 6:30, the heavy orange metal barriers were toppled and required 3 folks to "roll" them back up tubular style. I won't be surprised if this same scene greets us tomorrow a.m., and the KCC championships get delayed so that we can get the course ready for racing.

ALSO, not sure if the new course was raked tonight, but even seemingly small stretches of the course require serious time to rake/blow. Sooooo...early a.m. pre-race help will not be turned down!
Not that we want it to go to her head or anything, but @Erika, first CX race ever, biffs, lands on her head and still finishes top 10.

#justsayin

And what the WHAT did @Wump do?  He basically got on his bike at 8am and raced all.day.long.

I think he was still doing laps when we all left at 6pm, long after dark and the snow had started falling.
when do we start on Sunday.  7am? I thought I heard 7:15.
It snowed
My favourite quote from the announcer Joe Saling: "I guess that makes Gwynna Smith the Kissena Women's champion!"
