Club Championship Notes:
  • 3 starters, myself, JP and Jeff. Was hoping for more, hoping even guys on the team who haven't been racing cross much, would, in the spirit of "riding a cross bike is fun" would rally and come out and race/ride. Other KCC dudes out there on Sunday, but they elected to race their fields instead/only. Oh well. Race the race you have, not the race you want.
  • Started at the back of both 4/5 and 4/5 35+ fields. That's 78 beginners in front of us.
  • "Really, you're going to take THAT line?" I said to myself over and over again as I was making passes. I used to be that guy...I know...I'm glad I'm not that guy anymore.
  • JP and Jeff got the best overall starts. Riding 5-10 seconds ahead of me for most of the race.
  • With one lap to go, having already passed a strep-throaty JP, I turned on the juice to go after Jeff. He crashes in a muddy off camber turn on the south end of the course making the job easier.
  • Ultimately, I finished 1/2 bike length behind Gene the Environmental Scientist/volunteer extraordinaire. He finished the race in 18th place in a time of 31:06 (if my math is right)
  • Jeff finished in 31:18 (if my math is right)
  • Passing through 60 guys in 3 laps. Not too shabby. Fun times.

Marc - I was intimidated when I saw your name on the start list.. :-)

Anywhoo I regret not doing the club race. Next year.
Marc,

I elected to be club champion in heckling. my favorite was with Jeff closing on JP.

"JP don't let that Storm Trooper catch you!"

I ran across this picture at cxhairs.com. Supercross Cup day 1 men's elite.

Marc should just buy that bike.

Part of the unintended side-effects of being on power washer duty on that Saturday is that I got to manhandle a lot of bikes...and I have to say, I feel less disadvantaged by my own 20lb rig. A LOT of those bikes felt heavy. The only ones that felt noticeably lighter than the others were Cannondale SuperX with canti's, Van Dessel FTB, and a Focus if memory serves.
get them all!!

In addition to racing, please give thought to volunteering in either days (or both). This race will only be successful with volunteers helping out.

Lets make this year's Supercross the best yet. - Thanks.
And for those who want to get in a ride, as well as volunteer and see the race, the course is about 27 miles from the Jersey side of the GWB, and about five miles from the Suffern NJ Transit station, which goes to Secaucus for transfer to Penn Station or to Hoboken (the site of the big crash the other day: I believe the train in question was traveling this line)

What Phil said.

This is our race folks. Lots of clubs, teams, promoters put on lots of races throughout the year that we all benefit from and enjoy. Let's do our part to keep the local racing scene healthy.
No seriously, this will be my first time racing in cross.
Volunteer to see David race CX with the child seat still on his bike! #worthit
Myles and I worked on the course layout for Supercross this Sunday in the rain.

Start getting excited. This course has LOTS of off camber and LOTS of climbing. I did a few hot laps and my legs wanted to explode. Expect at least one super fast descent. Once again, Myles is massaging all he can from the available terrain into a killer course.

In the coming weeks there will be a need for club members (you!) to step up and volunteer to help make this one of the best CX races in NY State... and arguably one of the best on the east coast. Please don't be shy about helping.

An an official message about volunteering should occur soon, but in the meantime if you feel the urge to help I'd suggest you contact Myles directly mylesromanow@gmail.com
And seriously, if anyone has thoughts, ideas, photos, rants, gear reviews, whatever they want to be sent out into the wide world of CX racers, Supercrosscup.com blog is open for business!  If you would rather drive traffic to your own blog or instagram or whatever, we can do that to!  The site is hungry for content!  Nomnomnomnomnom.
JP breaks down how to get to the race this year!

Kissena needs YOU!

On November 19-20, Kissena will sponsor one of the premier Cyclocross races in the region: SupercrossCup. We need your help  to make this a success. Please read the following and help out in any way that you can.

Give back to the club:

Many clubs require members to help put on a race, marshal, etc. Kissena has no such requirement. Instead we come begging once a year! SupercrossCup is a race that our club offers to the community. How well it is run reflects on us.

Why volunteer:

  • Get your entry fees reimbursed
  • Come see what the hype is about
  • Cheer your teammates and Elite Pros
  • Have fun with teammates
  • Enjoy the atmosphere: food trucks and beer
  • Feel good by giving back to the club and community

How can you help?

Volunteer for available time slots at Supercrosscup.com. The greatest need is for help during Saturday and Sunday mornings. Responsibilities include helping with registration, running results to the announcer, marshaling intersections, etc. Email volunteer@supercrosscup.com (Patrick Grehan) if you have a preference or questions.

If you want to help even more, you can take on a substantial responsibility such as announcing podiums, course maintenance, or simply be available all day. Email volunteer@supercrosscup.com for more information.

Location:

SupercrossCup is located at the Rockland Community College campus in Suffern NY - 35 minutes by car from the GWB. Use the Supercross Volunteer or Cyclocross forums to talk to teammates about organizing carpools.

Thanks!

Kissena Club Cyclocross Championships!

That's right, time to race CX against your teammates for bragging rights!

Who: You! (see note below)
What: Race your heart out for two laps
When: Sunday Nov 20th at 7:30am
Where: SuperCrossCup - of course!
Why: Because CX is fun! (in a suffering sorta way)

note: This is a free race that is open to any current Kissena members. It is not officially part of the schedule. As of right now you don't need to sign up for it, however, we may have to sign a USA Cycling liability waiver on Sunday. Details about that to follow.

In the meantime, if you are racing: let it be known on the forum!

Here are some pics from the 2014 edition where Todd rode the rest of us off his wheel.

BTW, For those with kids, The Clif Kids Fun Zone is coming to the Race
Pump Track
Bouncy Castle
and Racing.

Racing is from 1:30-2, but everything else is open from 12-4.

And everything is free
Cross posted from Supercross volunteer thread:

Enter to win over $100 of sponsor swag and race for free at Supercross Cup!

How? By volunteering to help during the race weekend at supercrosscup.com/volunteers. Every time slot you sign up for and complete earns you an entry into the raffle as well as reimbursement of your race fee. Volunteer for as many time slots as you wish.

Tasks include marshaling, helping with registration, course set-up and maintenance, etc. What is the sponsor swag? It will be a collection of sports nutrition and other sponsor goodies worth over $100.

I can't wait to come in last! Woooooooooo!
Check out the volunteer thread. Forget $100 in sponsor swag. We are giving away a Van Dessel CX bike to volunteers. More details to follow.
A quick update on the Kissena Cyclocross Championships (KCC) Sunday morning. As with most things having to do with Supercross Cup, the details have changed since my post Thursday. Our race is now on Bikereg. Head on over to register. Also note that there is a nominal fee for the race ($15 to cover insurance, timing, etc.).

This could be fun one this year as there are are several racers who have been strong all season:  JP, Eloy, Jeff, Jim F, Harry, Dan R and myself will likely be dueling it out, but several others will be nipping at our heels: Max has been consistently getting stronger but what kind of form do the likes of Brendan, Dale or even Todd have? Has Jim N's back healed? These guys may not have been racing all season but they should not be underestimated. I am sure I am overlooking racers like Dan S, Mark T and Thierry who are just waiting to strike should the opportunity present itself. Where is hotlist when you need him, this could be a competitive race!
Saturday and Sunday weather will be vastly differently with rainfall expected late Saturday night through Sunday morning with a 20 degree temp drop for the highs and 25mph wind gusts.

https://weather.com/weather/weekend/l/10901:4:US

So, yeah, KCC CX champs will be pretty pretty pretty brutal.
Any chance I could hitch a ride with other 7am Saturday volunteers? @Jules ?
Ben - I still have room. Leaving Brooklyn at 5:30 both days.
