this venue is on par or better than Holy Week, and that is no lie. A powerhouse course with nowhere to hide and SO MANY places to eat sh*t if you're not planning ahead.

funny you ask that jules, this was the first race i ever did with a real power meter and i'm surprised how low the power average was.  though that could be the fact that i have absolutely no basis for comparison...

my HR average, however, reflects what was a painful, painful, PAINFUL succession of hills and valleys and turns and uphill sprinting turns and evil Myles treachery.  trainingpeaks told me I "Set a new Heart Rate Threshold"

Downhills, off cambers and turns will murder your straight average. HR is a great indicator as are NormP, variability index and the amount of blood you taste.

This course was Pure

I have not recovered yet from racing, working all weekend or doing teardown sunday, but wanted to report what I wrote on the Supercross Volunteer thread as all the members who volunteered deserve your recognition and thanks. Please thank them when you see them and if you didn't participate this year, consider doing so next year. It was exhausting, but it was a blast putting it together and the racing was awesome.

Thanks to all the Kissena members who volunteeed for supercross this weekend.  This was the successful race weekend which couldn't have happened without the efforts of a lot of different volunteers and staff who made contributions of time and effort big and small. 

Thanks to all the members who participated (in no particular order): 
Jim Nelson, Phil Maronilla, JP Partland, Josh Caesar, Todd McLoughlin, David Yang, John Malcolmson, Eloy Anzola, Brendan Rigby, Mark Taylor, Dan Striks, Jules Roazen, Harry Edmund Bolick, Thierry Bonaire, Jeff White, Jill White, and Max Thorn. 

Most worked as staff or contributed for multiple shifts of the difficult shifts (first thing in AM or Sunday night). We also had former teammates that helped including Nelson Martins, Marc Bertucco and Andy DeSilva. Marc's wife volunteered as did Mark Taylor's daughter. Thanks!

I will be looking at ways to improve the organization of the event in the coming weeks.  I'd be interested in your input to improve the volunteer experience in the future. 

We were fortunate to have two raffles for some pretty cool prizes for volunteers this year. We drew the first raffle, which was open to all volunteers on Sunday after the elite races. The following people won prizes.

Sunday's course was my first cross race ever.

It was absolute pandemonium.

The icy and muddy course conditions put most racers in the 4/5 fields on equal footing which contributed to me not being dead last.  In fact, if 30 riders in front of me didn't immediately fall down as soon as they went off pavement, I'm pretty sure my (or anyone's) chances of placing higher would have been even greater.  Otherwise, fun times despite me screaming my face off the entire time we were on the course!

Besides the actual act of racing, I had a great time heckling riders as I was manning crossing points, eating the awesome food, and even helping averting several wash station crises with Max, Todd, and of course Miles.  That last guy deserves all the kudos.

Awesome!! It is not likely to ever be harder than that.

Definitely looking forward to racing some more, hopefully in somewhat better weather and course conditions.

I so wish I was able to race and volunteer yesterday .... Mud  is what it's all about!!!

(I unfortunately had to cancel my volunteering on Saturday as I was sick and then Sunday already had plans with the ladyfriend)

I raced in the 45+ fields both days. The course on the first day was pretty awesome. The climbing killed the legs, the off cambers tested the skills and the competitors made me want to puke my lungs out. In the end I managed a result 6 spots ahead of my cross results prediction. While I was nearly 7 minutes behind near the winner roger aspholm, I took solace in that he was 1:50 over the second place finisher!

I was able to pre-ride the course backwards during changeover on Saturday and was expecting the Sunday course to be fun and flowy. I was pumped for the KCC champs. Little did we know that the prediction for light rain would turn into 1/2 inch of snow and strong winds. It took our team all the the time we had to get the fencing and tape back up in time for the first "official race". No kcc champs this year
