ALL, re: meyerson comment(s) ..."wait-for-it"  bare with rant 'till meyerson reviews his race&super awesome "WORLD CUP" quality course, cudos MilesR&co! -harryB;-)
I admire Myerson for various reasons but does anybody else think that in this rant about the heckling he's kinda smarmy and petulant? If the heckling was really so outrageous, I'm surprised he wasn't able to recall more of it. At the very least, if he does remember the vicious heckling but chose not to share it, he passed up a good opportunity to convince us of his point. Mostly it seems like the heckles were forgettably uninspired, and Myerson was having a bad day.
(We've all been there.)

And his "I'm suffering for your entertainment so why are you giving me such a hard time" complaint packs less of a punch when you realize that at least one of his two hecklers knows how hard the race was: the guy in the Care Bear onesie had just finished 15th in the Cat 3 race earlier that day. His name is Roger Young, which I found out because this morning Myerson asked his Twitter followers to help ID him. Myerson wrote of his desire to confront his hecklers, presumably on social media. Be careful Adam: don't tweet anything at Roger that you wouldn't say to his face in the parking lot after the race! ;)
I bet he's hangry.

Also I, being a totally n00bz at cross, had a nice long conversation with him and the Endgrain coffee guy about the course and the day, etc.  and had no idea I was talking to a famous dude.  He seemed super nice!
The Heckling discussion is way loaded - consider this like the 30th installment for some context, and Adam is pretty much the Godfather of East Coast CX.

He certainly enjoys his internet fisticuffs but is a remarkably honest and forthright person.
i had a great time racing the 4/5 on saturday.  i thought i pre-reg'd but i didn't, so i got put in the last row.  i think i've only done about 3-5 cross races, and none this year, so i doubt i would've been gridded in much better if i pre-regd, but i always forget how important starting position is in cross (versus road)

my first race with a power meter and i was surprised by the numbers. i don't have any data to compare to, but it felt like my heart rate was off the charts!  strava says avg of 185 for the entire half hour race!  i thought (wrongly) that my threshold was ~20 beats below that.  so I thank Myles for coaching me... supercross is a great threshold test

didn't get the gopro mounted in time for the race...really loved the course, all the off-cambers and ascents and descents.  i think i mostly moved up in the beginning on the climbs with turns.  i think in the 4/5 some people are afraid of bumping...i just went all in: either i'll pass you or we'll both fall over and prevent anyone behind us from passing.  i finally caught Max and within 5 seconds of being behind him we both went down in unison when our front wheels slid out at the same time on the same line.  guy behind us made some comment, not sure what it was, but it was a funny moment.  you see two teammates unite, only to fail quickly and together...that's good stuff

printed results at the event, which weren't split by age group, showed me finishing at 25 in a group of 74 or so.  i'm absolutely satisfied with that because it means i passed ~50 people.  USAC online results split the one race into 2 imaginary separate fields based on age, making my finish appear higher (yay!) in a smaller field (lame.)

there were opportunities to move up that i didn't make the most of, and i hope i'll be better at it next time.  i think i developed a habit in road racing that has no place in cross.  in road races, i've found that i benefit from sitting in; in many fields i can make up places at the sprint finish if i've saved up some energy.  but in cross, the benefit of drafting is far less than the benefit of passing unless you think the guy in front of you can teach you lines (the winner of day 2 said he learned lines from the second place finisher, though i'm too lazy to link it right now)...sitting in makes less sense and I should've kept moving up

one sheepish moment was on the finishing straight when i stood up to sprint while turning and my rear wheel almost slipped out.  the guys in front of me got a little gap just when i was thinking i'd close it.  the course transitioned from grass to asphalt on a turn right (left) before the finish at that time.  i was not mentally or physically ready for that change-up.  in cross you really have to think about how best to carry your speed.  if you're applying brakes hard in the middle of the turn (like i did and do, woops) then you're doing it wrong.

best part was probably after the race finished when a weapons-grade moron walked his bike slowly across the course at the crossing 20 yards from the finish. i was sprinting full out (i sniped a spot from the guy in front of me and couldn't be bothered to look back) and could not stop in time in the mud once i saw the person walking his bike perpendicular to me.  totally T-boned his rear wheel and he made a "WTF MAN" type comment.  i pointed out that he was walking his bike slowly across the course at the finish line while the field was sprinting.  he shut up real quick.  one of the most rapid changes in opinion i've ever seen.  perhaps the most magical moment of this weekend...if you don't count hanging out with myles et al until 9pm in a surprise snowstorm
Maybe it's a generational thing but I gotta say I am 100% with Myerson on this one. Heckling is total b.s. If you are joking with someone you actually know and are friendly with maybe but to be screaming, often with the aid of a bullhorn, anything other than encouragement at anyone who is obviously doing the best they can to cope with course conditions, terrain and other racers in order to have someone acknowledge YOUR existence just seems pathetic. I hope to never see anyone in Kissena kit doing it and if I do, I would not hesitate to point out the error of their ways.
P.S. Adam Myerson is more like the godson of east coast cross. Ask him sometime, I'm sure he would agree.
C'mon fellas, heckling = America. It's level of heckling skill that people are objecting to. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/30/sports/golf/ryder-cup-heckler-david-johnson-justin-rose.html
sorry, did you just post something golf on a cyclocross thread?!? please come back when you are ready. #heckled
#golphlocross
Is that basically bike polo except on dirt and fixed cross bikes?

That was a good race.
Supercross registration is open:
https://www.bikereg.com/supercross
A reminder to mark your calendars, Kissena's annual UCI Super CX Cup is coming up. We have an immediate need for graphic design volunteers to build on the identity and roll out some pieces:
-flyer
-poster (likely same as flyer, to put up in bike shops)
-pit passes (already have templates)
-social media PR and conventional media.  (Images denoting "juniors race free", and the like)
-new images for website http://www.supercrosscup.com/
Post here if you can help with all or part of.

We'll also need members to volunteer the Thursday/Friday before to setup the course and during the two days of racing—signup sheet to come in due course.

Cheers!

i reg'd!  maybe this year I won't start in the absolute last row :)
Is staging by order of registration? I remember it going by Crossresults points.
Volunteers get preferential staging
Not sure what happened with Rigby last year. Maybe official didn't know he was a volunteer or Kissena until they got to him

In the coming weeks we will be reaching out to Kissena members and other fans of CX to help put on this awesome race. As John mentioned there will be opportunities to help with web and design stuff, with setup on the Thursday and Friday before the race as well as staff/captain roles during the race. If those responsibilities seem like too much to commit to we will also need volunteers who help for 3 or more hours on race days.

Once again we expect to manage raffles for staff and volunteers. This is one of the best cross races of the season and It is put on by Kissena. The success of the race depends on club members pitching in and making it into a kick ass CX race that is a highlight of the season for many racers.

I will post more details about how you can help in the coming weeks. I hope you'll consider doing so. Feel free to email me at livetoridebikes@gmail.com if you are interested or want to discuss it further.

yes this was my fault, wasn't complaining!  i had a great race and enjoyed myself!
i think i should be around that weekend. i don't race cross but i will volunteer to help out behind the scenes. maybe seeing it live will motivate me to finally give cx a shot. i have access to a car as well, so can give a couple others a lift.
I can help with those pieces(all).
The course is about 4 miles from the NJ Transit Suffern train station, in case people want to go up there without a car.
The weekend before Thanksgiving, Kissena will be sponsoring Supercross Cup in Suffern NY. It's gonna be awesome.

We need YOUR help! The success of this race depends upon our volunteers and KISSENA in particular. I have emailed many members that I know directly. If you haven't heard from me or responded, please reach out to me so we can coordinate your participation. livetoridebikes@gmail.com

Benefits:
• Feel good putting on a kick ass race
• Have fun with your teammates and see what they look like without spandex and goofy orange helmets
• Get your registration fee reimbursed if you are racing
• Get entered into a raffle for a complete Van Dessel A.D.D. with Ultegra (open to all volunteers)
• Get entered into a raffle for a Van Dessel A.D.D. frameset open only to Kissena volunteers
• Get entered into a raffle for yet another Van Dessel A.D.D frameset for volunteers who help with teardown Sunday

What is a Van Dessel A.D.D.? Ask Max Thorn who is racing it this CX season after winning the frame for volunteering last year and check out the site here.

emil me or text me at 516-987-6404 and I'll answer your questions.

Historically, team members have carpooled to the race, although it can also make sense to get some cheap housing in the area. Our greatest manpower needs are early in the morning on Saturday and Sunday (registration is swamped) and Sunday after 5pm. We also have a need for help with setup on Thursday or Friday. We are willing to accept any reasonable offer for help. The more people chip in the better for everyone.

Thanks!

Patrick

I put riding directions from the GWB and from the Suffern Train Station here:  http://www.supercrosscup.com/blog/getting-to-supercross-cup-2016

Thanks JP. There's also a dunkin donuts by the train station at Suffern.
Sign up for volunteers is up and running.
