I started looking in to Bryan Fogel.  He lived in NYC for a spell doing Jewtopia.  And I think he might have done one race in a Kissena jersey in Prospect.  He and I had several email back and forths before the race and rode together at least once.  He seemed able to hold his own, but I remember being pissed when I saw him attack in the joggers lane once.  Don't know if I saw him again on the bike after that race.

So he dopes his gills off, spends tens of thousands of dollars I'm sure on the drugs, coaching, dr's, hotel rooms fights, etc.    Only to have his entire caper shot down by a shoddy battery in his Di2...such sad trombones

Actually in similiar news, I drove to Bear Mt on Sunday w Tess. Intended to roll with Whitey and team. I mounted up to find my front wheel was de-beading (shout out to Whitey for diagnosing). Went through 5 tubes before getting the bike ridable. So finally, after most of the day had been wasted on this wheel thing, Tess and I mount up and start rolling. we get about a mile when...drum roll please...Tess' Di2 battery dies. She hadn't charged em up. So I rode her bike in big ring front little ring back all the way back to the car and like two sad pandas, we went home. to the fleekiest sad trombones you ever heard.

Coincidentally we watched Icarus later that night and when that Di2 snafu happened, yea let's just say it was a good segue way into contining "the conversation".

This will do well in euro markets, gov't's are offering tax incentives for commuters that buy e bikes. This thing is a commuters dream...I wonder how well the battery does in NYC-winter-cold temps???

at least in the UK, the bike is speed-limited to 25kph = 15.5 mph, so if you're averaging 18mph on straights then there's no power assist and it's just a 40lb bike that sucks to ride on the flats.  if you're going less than 15.5 mph, as on a hill, then apparently it's awesome.  whether it makes sense depends on the course profile of your commute and how much time you spend below its limited speed.

somehow my earlier comments got deleted.  anyway, my commute to and from work is 32 miles round trip so i have been thinking about buying an e-bike.  with work and life, i can only manage 2-4 days of bike commuting...an e-bike would help

but for the $4k price, these bikes don't justify their cost to people who read this forum.  all of us exceed 15.5 mph.

however, if a talented electrical engineer like my dad could modify that top speed...i'm in the market

with our Giant discount...it gets appealing for that purpose...perhaps their is a "hybrid" tax benefit???  I'm actually serious about that

if you guys start riding e-bikes tho, it's required you also pick up smoking (cig handing out of mouth while riding), you must always ride the wrong way in bike lanes and/or against traffic, and most importantly, you need plastic bags (or mittens) taped over the handle bars to keep your hands warm. I'm probably forgetting some stuff, but good place to start.

It's a good looking bike, and the ability to turn the assist on or off is a nice feature, though I would think one would eventually just leave it on.
just looked at a YouTube video and the speed was read via a magnet on the rear wheel. A guy moved the magnet to his crank, unscrewed the device that reads it and taped it to the other side of the chainstay, and said the assist now worked up to 25mph. 
And yes, you'd be obligated to always carry takeout with you...

And quite the 1000chf fine. If I understand the news correctly, it was about his low results this season, and not being picked for the Vuelta. 

And to add to the ebike thread, they're huge here in Switzerland, and don't seem to have a speed cap. I do believe they need to be registered and wear a license plate. The delivery guys are all on mopeds here, so no stigma. It seems fashionable to have one.
