Now I realize that hits might not be everyone's cup of... but whatever. Kabush is a straight up cycling legend.

just found this.  From masters nationals 2005 in Providence, RI.  When I started, it was 34 and raining and a few inches of snow on the ground.  By the time I finished, 45 minutes later, it was probably 22 and snowing with massive wind.  The weather change was called bombogenesis.  Guys were dropping out on the first lap.

After the race, I was picking up my bag from the Mavic trailer in the background (parking was at least a half-mile away), someone suggested getting into the nearby ambulance.  As miserable as I was, most there were far worse.  Several people crying in pain.  An EMT asked a guy why he dressed so light.  He responded "I was afraid of overheating."  Brandon Dwight, a top crosser was in there, realized he should call his girlfriend.  Then he realized he didn't know her number and his phone was with her.  When I got out, 45 minutes later or so, the place was pretty much abandoned and my bike gone.  Hoped the Mavic guys had locked it up, as there was nothing I could do and no one to ask.  They had.

Raced the elite race the next day on a slick, hard course.  It was more like "racing" as there was a massive crash in the first 200 meters that took down a bunch and caught at least 40 or 50 behind it.

Good times.

Andy Hampsten worthy.  Damn JP, no shoe covers either.

And orange racing slicks by the look of it ;)

Tufos.  Kind of a Grifo pattern. It was a reddish tread.

I was nearly going to go bare hands but...

(kidding)

I didn't have shoe covers that worked with spikes back then.  Didn't have winter shoes, either.  Not sure what I did to keep my feet from freezing.  I might have had sealskins socks, or goretex socks, or it was really cold.  It was that even if I had those other options going.
This video of living legend John Tomac has been making the rounds, you will probably enjoy it, he gets a bit deep into doping and why it sucks:

Fascinating talk by Tomac.

I wonder about what the unedited conversation was like.  In the MTB world, he was a rock star.  Tomac came in at the tail end of the first generation of MTB racers, an awesome bike handler and descender, who learned to climb well.  It barely gets a mention.

I'd love to see them speak with Inga Thompson next.
Here's to pinning your numbers on your bum and getting 12th.

Flobikes has posted the Koppenberg cross races -- no commentary, which is kinda fun, all you get is the fans.

Both races feature hardcore battles for the win and podiums, up to the last lap.
