They don't make them like that anymore...

@Jules

My father, also an octogenarian, had saved the three-speed Rudge he had bought as a kid well into the 1980s.  It must have been a newer model, as it had side pull brakes, not the rod-activated you see here.  Sadly, he didn't take as good care, and the wheels were pretty badly rusted.  I tried getting it back to riding condition, but was stymied by the rim size.

I don't really understand how the wheels and tires are still working on this one TBH. As I've posted before the real loss was her father's WWI era BSA. That thing is sadly lost to the ages. I tried to interest Van Dessel in making a modern on a few years ago - heh.

I was only hosting office hours today (don't get a lot of takers for voluntary geometry at 9am) and was able to tune in. It was kind of interesting from a data perspective. I think they did a decent job of showing/ talking about the data that might not be available live in regular races.
One stat that was neat was an efficiency rating. I think they divided speed by w/kg to show who was riding most efficiently in the pack. I feel like we all look at how hard people are working but its neat to examine how easy/efficient some people are in the peloton and i wish we had that in IRL racing.
It was a fun watch. Matt Stephen's commentary about the "beautiful fountain in the italian villa" or the volcano off in the distance made it that much better
I hope to have a decent level

Hello everyone!

I'm starting to get the hang of the PR position for 2021 and I have a few ideas for fresh content. There will be more as the year progresses, but I think these will be a nice start to the new year.

Meet Kissena Series:
The first is a Meet Kissena Series. I've seen other local teams post about new/returning members and professional teams making rider announcements. This will serve a similar purpose and will also help to humanize Kissena a bit! This is a play on the traditional "Meet Kissena Ride" and might mimic the convos you would have with a prospective member. To accomplish this, I created this little survey:

https://forms.gle/RTmyziNvmXVfGPY67

It asks:
1. Your name
2. What do you do for work?
3. How long have you been with KCC?
4. Why did you join KCC?
5. What did cycling look like for you in 2020 (examples are on the form)
6. Do you have any big goals coming up?

and we wrap up with some photo uploads (one on the bike, one OF the bike).

I would love to post these on a scheduled basis starting January 1st and keep it rolling as we get submissions. So if you don't have time to get it in by Jan 1, you've still got some time afterwards. Kevin did a series like this earlier in 2020 that was a hit and I'd love for us to get something similar going!

Media Hub:
The second form I want to share is just a Kissena Media Hub. I'd love to make it easy for everyone to share photos and videos with me so they can be shared with followers. The Instagram story mentions/tags are awesome (pls continue!), but it is nice to have original files that can be uploaded to the KCC accounts. This form will be up and running forever for folks to upload things. They will be stored on Google Drive where we can access them as needed. If you have any photos or videos, please feel free to upload them soon! It would be really nice to have a little cache of media that can be shared.

Please feel free to be a bit egotistical here- send in that photo of your BAAW, share that selfie you took on 9W, send me a pic of that donut resting on your saddle, upload that video of your front tire/ handlebars rolling on a gravel road!

I am excited to get the ball rolling again on
~fresh new content 202020201~

Note: Please only upload information that you're comfortable sharing on Instagram/ Facebook. I will be looking at these submissions assuming you're cool with it being paraphrased and posted online.
@RobertMullen fyi there are a few different repositories of KCC assets; Flickr, a dropbox and the socials. Happy hunting!
Filled it in. Very  seriously.

Oh awesome! I’ll poke around for sure.

Your submission is perfect though I haven’t fact checked it just yet.
Here's another example of how we'd find race photos before everything got digital.
(and when I could get away with riding a road bike in CX--30mm tires just barely fit when I had a friend braze canti' studs onto a steel racing frames)

JP NYS!
We've got 4 submissions to the Meet Kissena form! It would be great if we could sneak in a few more in the next few days. So far mostly newer members have filled it out but I'd love for some veteran members to share their thoughts in the form. If you haven't got any photos, just let me know on the form somewhere and we will make it work with the instagram archive!

Thanks a bunch again to everyone who's filled this out! Right now, theres a total of 6 (including myself). If you'd like to be included, please let me know using the form in the next 2 days so we can keep the posts consistent!

If you haven't seen it, check out the KCC instagram/FB page! A former member posted on our FB page saying he wanted to rejoin. Whether he will or not is to be seen, but i think it has helped to put a human face on the club. People gave a bunch of love to @m@mugwump yesterday in the comments.

It would be great to have a few more recognizable Kisseñors posted up there because its nice to have that engagement from the nyc community. No pressure but please! Do it!

cmon people, I know you've had most excellent bike adventures and photographic evidence thereof.  Just take a few minutes to comb through your archives.  I'm sure there are plenty.

Here are some older images.  Lots shot by Eloy and Jules.  https://www.flickr.com/groups/kissena/

@Ro@RobertMullen

Shouldn't you space out the entries?

i’d humbly suggest some themes:

kcc at floyd
kcc on the track
kcc in prospect
kcc training camps
kcc weekend rides
kcc podiums
kcc snacking
kcc dads/moms
kcc alums (but not that one doper, please)
kcc cx
kcc mountain bikes
kcc putting on races
kcc fixing flats
et cetera
Got a few more in today and we have just a few short of 10 total which is awesome. Thanks again for participating everyone! I'm going to cap it relatively soon, so if you're still interested in getting something out there the form is open. While I have genuinely enjoyed putting these bios together, I don't think it would be great ~content~ to do this every day until 2021 lol.

I do feel like we are painting a nice, realistic picture of what the club looks like and the new year activity (one post per day) should show prospective folks that we're starting off the year movin and shakin. You're right it probably could have been spread out a bit more and serve the same purpose so I'll def consider that in the future.

My secret ambition as social media rep is to create a gritty true crime podcast about cat 4 doping so if anyone wants to leave any anonymous tips, I'll get that Google form fired up.

To be honest amateur doping stories are just sad, in the end.
Florida masters doping tales. Miami. White sports cars. Specialized Tarmacs. Deep rim wheels.

@ju@Jules

There's only one issue with that.  He was part of our Team Pursuit squad that took an elite National Championship medal in 2002. (fifth is in the medals)

That might be Kissena's last elite national championship medal. (JP, Jared Bunde (doper), Eric Ragot, and Greg Durovich of East End).

I suppose it is possible, but I doubt that Jared Bunde was doping while he rode for Kissena. Timeline suggest that happened a bit later.

Agreed.  Having raced with and against him, I think the only year his performance dramatically improved was when he was doping.  Gaining appreciable weight and climbing much better was only one sign.
I was actually referring to Hincapie. I did not know about Bundle.
So much going on in this picture in terms of tech, so many memories also , Kelly in toe clips , early computers ,Campy delta brakes, Briko glasses
