That's what I thought too; check out the .mov file @PatrickGrehan linked to though - that tire is perfect long after he crashes.

I checked it out the hirez, I think the rear explodes -- altho could be the front. The front bounces around fences and asphalt, the rear is less bouncy as the bikes goes thru the crash. Ultimately the movie doesn't show the bottom of the bike. 

Trying hard not to joke about it, but kudos that it did not slow his TT time at all!!

I saw a few people on Cycling-Twitter agreeing with JP. Between the sand, wind catching his rear disc and maybe some exhaustion he fishtailed and way overcorrected

I've probably told you, and others, this before, but those CBS packaged videos of Paris-Roubaix and the Tour I watched over and over and over.  In college, my riding buddy and I named the hills we rode over after Liggettisms.  He was certainly an essential part of my cycling world in those early days.

But he lost a step a long time ago.  And his embrace (along with Sherwen) of Armstrong got unseemly well before he made the unwise choice of defending Lance after it was clear how doped and corrupt Armstrong was.    

I don't personally know Liggett.  That written, it's hard not to feel that he's working overtime to justify his defense of Lance.  And is only getting in deeper.  It's clear from his comments that he either he doesn't understand what when on or he's pretending not to understand the nature of Lance's doping.  Yes, EPO and HGH helped turned donkeys into thoroughbreds.  Rodolfo Massi is just one example of many.  The Gewiss-Ballan team of 1994-96.

Not to shift the topic but these totally remind me of the time I went to the Nike Outlet Store at the mall as a high schooler and came across these shoes that must have been bought online and returned to the store.  I was trying to get a pair of of dunks for cheap and could not figure out why the hell these had big clunky ass screws in the bottom of them. Turned out they were made for the BMX athletes in the Beijing Olympics. Of course, I wish I bought them now 12 years later.

I agree with Mark; from what I’ve heard in his own telling, Phil thought/thinks his job was making cycling romantic and accessible to people who really don’t know the sport. In that light, a home run derby is fine, regardless who is juicing. Add that to his age and I think it’s a sort of sad commentary on how shallow the waters of fandom are thought to be, or cared to be.

It was filmed long ago.

Actually, it was a debate here.  

The place.  Veselka.  While we were in a booth, the front was entirely open.  And while there were sides, there were gaps around us.  

As for me, I have had very little contact with others.  I have ridden alongside people for up to 45 minutes, but rarely since March, 2020.  I have not had a meal with a non family member for more than a year.  I'm always masked indoors when it's not my home, even the halls of my building (thanks to Rob and Matt for sounding the warning on this).  I work from home, my wife works from home, at that point my son (13) hadn't been to his school in months (it changed the day after) and only sees others outside, and my daughter (9) had been going twice a week, is very good about masking, and has had almost weekly Covid tests since going to school, her most recent test, taken last Thursday, a day after the video was shot, was negative.  

Constantin works from home, his wife works from home, they have a one year-old who is at home with them.  Doesn't seem like he goes out much, other than to ride.  He seems to generally mask and masked when he went inside Veselka to use the bathroom.

Yes, it was a risk.  Possibly more than I should have taken.  I contemplated masking when not eating.  But you can see what I did.  

This morning, after dropping my daughter off at school, I rode home and started my workday.  20 minutes later, I found out that her in-school class had been canceled because someone in her class tested positive for Covid on Monday.  Eeeek.  My son was tested at his school last thursday. It was negative.  We'll probably seek out a Covid test for us Sunday or Monday.

Any thoughts on the risk?  Maybe this is a teachable moment.

When he went home to the Netherlands, he was asked about it in front of a huge crowd.  I met someone from his hometown a year after.  She was talking about the poop incident.

@mugwump it sounds like you thought it through pretty carefully; I'm not an epidemiologist so I don't have anything to "teach" nor am I qualified in any other way.

An outside meal definitely seems safer.

I quite enjoyed the video and I'm glad nothing ill came of it.

Community infection rate in Duluth has been plunging since Thanksgiving despite Wisconsin bars remaining open full tilt.

My only social interaction has been a whiskey night with 4 immunized docs outdoors around a fire pit, with generous distancing. The kids are all in school, masked with small cohorts and 1/2 the usual population in each classroom.

Thus far no positive tests.
