Nope. Those are Time pedals. Road version. He got off of Looks when he moved on to PDM in 1988.
Don't think Time had an MTB pedal at that point. Besides, the road pedals were lighter and had less stack height. Back in that era, it wasn't uncommon to see road pedals show up when racers knew they wouldn't have to walk/run/carry in an offroad race.

The Lemond photo made me dig a bit..., this is circa '92/'93. Somewhere in Venezuela. About to cross the finish line.
All categories would start together, if I remember I must have finished 12th/13 in the open group and pretty sure 2nd or 3rd on the expert cat... probably why I'm zipping the Jersey. Ironically the shop logo was only in the back... eventually they got us jerseys with logos everywhere. I loved that Pearl stuff.
The rockshox came in a week or two later, which upped my game significantly.
I think my good friend Claudia Riveros took the photo.

^ Specialized Sub-6 Helmet, it was just a piece of foam with no plastic outer — I remember there was talk it had the potential for "stiction" issues if your head hit the road.

what a fun race to watch, that last lap was crazy. Meuseem bombing everything. it looked like Nys was actually riding disc brakes on some of the laps.

I was thinking as I was watching the race that the racers, who were amongst the best in the United States at the time, didn't look like they were going fast, the packs didn't look as tight as ours, and the tactics seemed pretty bad. Some of the tactical read could be based on a bad script, but even with it, I found myself thinking of the progress in training and racing that has happened between then and now. I began wondering how racers of today would fare if they could square off with racers of then.
