Anyone want to host a Snowpocalypse trainer session in a basement with a TV an endless reruns of Big Trouble in Little China?

Tonight while the snow is falling is even better - you can ride around on trails and off without being bothered by police! used to do it on MTB and then CX bikes in the past. Unbelievable fun.

Neoprene booties, rain cape and go for it.

Oooh, those SKS Long fenders look pretty good and they have good reviews online.  Not sure if they'd fit my bike because of the wheel cut-out in the seat tube that makes for a tight tolerance, but worth investigating.  And here I thought I was done buying stuff for my bike. . .

With all due respect, Nemo can go die.  I have been looking forward to this ride -- hell, any outdoor ride of any length -- for weeks now.

Not sure how reliable that is, since it says it was open yesterday but I got an email from them yesterday stating that it was closed (which it was).

I ran into Dan C., BritLee and Evan as they were trying to get across the bridge (I was out getting groceries and they were trying to hitchhike with their bikes on the lower roadway - one of the surreal experiences of living in Washington Heights) - Dan seemed to think that the bridge walkways would be cleared this afternoon and that the ride was still on. 

I just emailed Keith to see what the deal is.  Please stand by.

I just called the desk @ the GW Bridge (the number listed at http://www.panynj.gov/contact/contact-us.html under "Bridges & Tunnels Communications Desks at the Crossings") and he said that the bridge's sidewalk is not open today but will be open tomorrow.  However, when I asked if he anticipated that it would be open by 7 AM, the time during which we'd have to actually cross it, he could only offer that he "wasn't sure, but it should be." He reiterated his lack of certainty as to the 7 AM clearance of the sidewalk.  So we might have to pretend we're cars for the ride over the bridge, but have a sidewalk ready on the way back.

(1) FWIW- I just just spoke with my in-laws, who live about 5 miles SW of Piermont in Old Tappan, NJ.  They said that they got about 12" of snow there overnight.  All the roads near them have been plowed and are quite passable but a bit wet with sun (and salt) melted snow.  They did said that a portion of 9w around Nyack was closed down last night.  They have not been on 9w today, so they could provide neither specifics nor current conditions.  Maybe Mattie can give us a more local and timely accurate update.

(2) Is any virtue to moving the start  an hour later (i.e., 'til 9AM at the GW Bridge) so that there's a slightly better chance that the Bridge will have been cleared?  I of course defer to the leaders of the ride to make that call.

(3) I'll likely be driving out from Brooklyn to join for a portion of the ride.  If I do and the path is closed, I can ferry 3 bikes (in addition to mine) across the roadway with the car.  You can reach me at 917-579-6580 if that become necessary.

I've done that before.  They had closed the bike path and I was late to work.  I rode the lower level.  Bad idea.  The expansion slats can eat your wheel.  And they've got lots of security cameras, too.  

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.  I am hoping it is still on, given that I just finished Project Fender Dork. 

@neilx I may take you up on that offer.  What time are you thinking you'll head out?

I'm on the fence at this point - I decided to play hooky from church for the ride, but if it's not gonna be the real deal then I'm back on God's clock.  I can ride solo later when the walkways are sure to be clear.

Wunderground forecast says 20deg at 8am and not rising to 25deg until 11 (Nyack says 14deg at 8 rising to 22 at 11). I was prepared for the sufferfest (sort of the same as looking forward to it), but am worried about icy conditions (i.e., melted slush that has refrozen overnight) and will most likely stay home and ride my trainer - again. At least I have a nice view out of the window.

I second that - its not a bad ride up from the Hoboken PATH or Ferry stations, and not a bad route to learn anyway (you never know when they might close the bridge and you could be stuck in NJ).

i must concede that Mr. Stokes' hard truths seem to me the wiser course at this point.  i will likely do some laps in prospect tomorrow in honor of those who are more brave than i.  i also don't have any fenders and don't want to offend-er you guys with my presence.

Listen to Mr. Stokes. There will be plenty of weekend days that are sunny, dry and cold for epic-long-hard team building rides. Tomorrow is a recipe for broken collar bones.

Okay, let me be the third to bow before the unassailable icey logic Dr,  Stokes.  I'll head out to the Park though.

@Mark Clifford-Apologies for the premature lift offer.  Your fender technology will nonetheless come in handy in the Park should you decide to stay local.
