Forum Q & A

@Mark - I have experienced the same. Jules has been doing some much needed cleanup and thread merging. Vanilla's software is not perfect, so such editing activities can cause some discrepancies in the database.
^ got it.  i knew jules was taking the knife to certain threads but i didn't realize it was causing the unread-messages problem.  cool.

Yes, search is broken and we have an open ticket.  Personally I supsect that me reducing our 900 open threads to 500 has kicked off a big re-indexing for search that is hugely inefficient.

I also have not seen that "fail monster" in a while so it looks like they sorted out their traffic issues.

@ I've noticed that when I read one thread in a category, sometimes other thread get marked as read even though I haven't opened them. For example, I read the team kit order thread, went back to the main page, and this thread was then marked as read even though I hadn't opened it. By marked I mean the color.

In case anyone is interested, since Jan 1st 2013 the forum has done about 300k page views and 10k comments with 40 new users.

Apparently Yang's Simpsons posts account for fully 20% of all traffic.
^ I'm out
(Merged the old "Forum vs Listserv" discussions from 2010 for the club history buffs)
i too have experienced the false unread count

edit: uhhhh this was in response to mark's 3 pm post.  i'm confused...

Oooh, a sarcasm meter, that's a really "useful" invention.

Thanks for keeping the site up and running, and making these improvements, Jules.  This is my go-to place to hang out at work while Perl is parsing XML files in the background .  And when I just need a bike fix.

I'm sad to hear spring is ending, though, since I don't think I saw much of it.  But hello, summer!

....aaaaaand it's done.  I'll take my payment in tribbles please.  The blue ones.
It isn't obvious how to use it, But just click on the magnifying glass next to the search box and then after waiting for the page to refresh, click on the down arrow next to the new search box that has appeared and a whole bunch of search options come up. This is a great addition.
It also does some autocomplete...
I am about to declare "Forum Bankruptcy" because Cannot.Keep.Up.

Keep up with what? Are you trying to make chocolates?
it doesn't seem to autocomplete names anymore when i try to send a message. only tried it in chrome.

I've never seen it autocomplete
I think I saw auto complete when I was sending a message to someone a couple of days ago.
I've never seen autocomplete, but I'll ask if something changed.  Please try it on different browsers and shoot me an email with what you find.
tks.
functions in both IE and chrome. my browser must have needed a restart; it didn't work before (i sent two PMs and had to hope i was spelling names right).  thanks for responding!
I can't manage a screen capture because everytime I change the focus the feature disappears. But it works on firefox under Win7. When you start a new message and start typing a user name into the 'recipient' box, the autocomplete pops up. This is actually pretty convenient because one doesn't always remember the relevant usernames.
