....svenn...

edit: just saw what you wrote about him mark.

"glad to hear he's okay."  and other pleasantries.  came off the bike, patched up by medics, put back into race?  i grow increasingly suspicious that he is a sophisticated robot sent back in time to please one lucky race bikes
Anyone driving up this weekend?

Just in case you missed the info...

Hey everyone, this coming weekend there are a couple of nice racing opportunities. In addition to Saturday's PP or CP action, SUNDAY is the big day. What's so big about SUNDAY?

Well, it's the NEW YORK STATE CRITERIUM CHAMPIONSHIPS in nearby White Plains, NY. It's great course, with some elevation changes, some real turns, but nothing crazy. Safe course, but not "too easy" like Somerville. But really the big thing here is that because it's the state Champs, there are state championship jerseys on the line for almost every category you could think of. (Sorry Cat 5s, you get to race, but not for a jersey).

  • Women cat 4s....uhm, hello Kayt? You would look totally dope in state champ jersey.
  • Men 35+/45+...we race together, but get separate jerseys. JP would sparkle in state champ colors. Ragot has his eye on the 35+ (I don't have the heart to tell him that it's all mine!)
  • Men 55+/60+...again, they race together but get their own jersey. Calling David Stokes!!!
  • Men Cat 4...you could team-up and rally around one, or just beat the snot out of each other and see who comes out on top.
  • Men 3/4...3s race for the jersey, 4s already had a shot at racing for their jersey, so should be in this race for support. Would be nice to get a strong team together to rally around Craig or Andy.
  • Men 1/2/3...this will be a very fast affair. Vlad's ready to throw-down with the big-boys...anyone else?
I want multiple state champions folks, and we've got the legs. No doubt. We'll need a little luck too, but there's no reason why we cant have 2 or 4 state champions on our club after this coming weekend. OKAY??? OKAY!!!
I'll be waxing my chain for this.
I'm hoping to dump the tank in the 3/4

Roll call of all future crit state champions...head on over to the mentoring thread read my post about this Sunday and be counted. Thx.
Would LOVE to do this, but I'll be out of town.
Done
Think I'm in for 4s and maybe 3/4s if Craig needs more Kissenas in the field (though my usefulness will probably be very limited).

Okay folks, with just a day left for online registration, KCC numbers are looking kind of weak honestly. A city-center crit with a challenging, but not nutso course. State Championship jerseys on the line. Great opportunity to work on Leg speed, explosive power, snap, positioning, bike handling. (GMSR racers should remember that you have to finish at least 1/2 of the final day's extremely challenging crit in Burlington to place in the overall.)

That said, here's the line-up so far.

Pro 1/2/3: Vlad and Marc

Cat 3/4: Craig and Jeff

35+/45+: Ragot and Marc

Cat 4s:
Patrick Grehan Rockville Centre NY 6/02/14
Bruce van-Schalkwyk Brooklyn NY 6/05/14
Aaron Blum Brooklyn NY
Kissena Cycling Club
6/02/14
patrick rodriguez New York NY
kissena Cycling Club
6/02/14
Jeffrey Apruzzese Brooklyn NY
Kissena Cycling Club
4/11/14

55+/60+: Nolan and Stokes

Cat 5s: Crickets
Women: Crickets (Only 9 folks in that entire category so far. Odds-wise, might be KCCs best chance for a state championship jersey)

And as a reminder, I'm planning to be there all day, coaching/mentoring as needed. So if you are feeling a little nervous about the whole thing....DON'T! I'll be there to help.

I'm on the fence. My wrist and knee are really bothering me right now.
Maybe I'm jaded but enough crits already. I'm signed up for this and Dave Jordan in CP the day before. I'm doing both, but not really excited about them. It's a tense hour finished with a field sprint. Throughout the entire race you try to avoid crashing. It's a white knuckle experience. I can't comment on this one as I haven't done it but after Somerville weekend with so many people being crashed for no reason- plus Andy's accident this week I'm not super excited. Who knows, maybe I'll be proven wrong?

Also, Andy- when in doubt, leave it out.

Recover up. If you're feeling good then great, but don't push it!

Craig...the White Plains course is fun. And significantly more challenging than Somerville.

Wide home stretch, wide 90 degree right turn a short stretch, 90 degree right onto an out of the saddle bump climb that will wear out the less fit and poorly positioned. Coming off the climb is a wide 100 degree right turn that is fast and can feel a little like a fast sweeper. Turn 4 is similar, but rises somewhat to the finish line.

But that said, you'll still have a bunch to battle at the finish. That's kind of the deal. You've done well, with several top 10s in your finishes so far, No reason why you can't go a few better. One thing for sure, is that if your head is not in it, then you are not going to go well. You won't get dropped, you're too strong for that, but you have to want it!

You, know, if you really aren't into hunting upgrade points or the state championship jersey, you might consider doubling up and/or just racing the Pro 1/2/3 race where the challenges will be different. Going up against plenty of semi-pros will surely test your fitness.

Of course, there are plenty of folks who prefer road racing and find good options to keep them busy on weekends too. Ryan, Adam and Konrad are heading to the Mass State RR championships this weekend for example.

June 21-22 a few KCCs are getting excited about a stage race in Giro del Cielo
June 28 at Hunter Mountain for the NYS RR championships
July 12 NY Capital Region RR is a classic Upstate NY style RR. A couple of big climbs, lots of rollers.

etc....

I guess the key is to do whatever gets you pumped to race.
Craig you should smash the 3/4, get the jersey, then you can wear the jersey on your training rides with j pow.
My stretch goal for winter is the Master's 30-34 CX Nationals. We'll see. Maybe I can grab a jersey there too. If Justine Lindine and the rest of the top 20 don't show up from last year I may actually have a shot. Then we could have matching jerseys!
If you can't tell from that previous post I am actually excited for cross season to get here. I can smell the waffles already
I'm in for the 4s and would love a ride up.  The 4s start at 10:15 if anyone will be there early, otherwise I'm planning on taking Metro North from GC to Whiteplains and probably riding back.  Dan R are you signing up?  David Y, where you at?  No obligations for rides, but we will need your wheels in the race.
I'm really on the fence for this one.

On one hand: Short, flat, and the NYS championship.

On the other: Poor form, a streak of recent crashes, and little hope for podium contention.

I'm going to do some hard intervals tonight and see how my legs feel before committing.  There are some very strong racers signed up and quit frankly I'm afraid that with the championships on the line they will be riding very aggressively (i.e. stupidly) and cause crashes.  I don't have it in me to spend another week patched up with duoderm...or worse.

Looking forward to watching you race with an already enthusiastic bunch of KCC crossers!
Million dollars if you can name who that is behind me. PS- that doesn't happen anymore.
This crit rules. That's all.

Uhm, duh? Those are Jeremy Powers' calves.

Humbly yours,

GDI, that mysterious dude from L&C Baris Aytan is in the 4 field.  Um, isn't this dude due for an automatic upgrade?

No. stage races don't count for upgrades from 5 to 4 and 4 to 3.

He's way over the 20 points necessary for an upgrade. Sandbagging should not be allowed in my humble opinion.

It's looking like in out. The wrist and knee are too messed up still. I'll swing but and cheer.
What's the pro move- ride up, race and ride back or take the train up/or Uber prob same cost, race and ride home?

Decisions, decisions.
Google says 28 miles there from my apt. I could get there going easy in about 2 hrs.

I rode both ways last year. Good for warm-up, pleasant on the way home too There's some nice bike path riding involved. Plus, in the a.m. up until a certain hour in the afternoon, one of the major roads is closed to car traffic (I forget which one exactly, but I'm sure someone else knows). Except, it's going to be hot and sunny, so plenty of liquid refreshment both ways will ease your journey. This year we have a car for a family trip on Saturday, so I'll be driving this year.
