Josh - I have those exact glasses in orange. Seem fine to me and they come with a few different lenses, a hard case, and a soft bag. If I didn't go through a pair of glasses every year I may go for some more expensive shades but I am prone to breaking them so the 30 buck price point is perfect for me. And you can find them for $30 a lot of the time. And you're right, the shade of orange doesn't really match our kit.

Har, har. If my pump were shot, I'd replace it with the Blackburn. I love having a full-size frame pump...I never feel like I'm going to be stranded. And $20 seems like a pretty great deal.

How do frame pumps attach to the bike ? Does it just "fit" ? Or do we need a frame with pump pegs ?

If I may be so bold to answer for Marc...

Your question isn't surprising at all. Frame pumps aren't a consideration with most bike makers these days. In the era of parallel top tubes, you'd nestle one end of the pump between the seat and top tubes and then either have a pump peg brazed onto the head tube just below the head tube/top tube juncture or use a pump clip in the general area.

With today's frames, pump pegs are long gone. The good thing is that for many people, their frames are small enough that running a frame-fit pump under the top tube is fairly easy. The first part nestles as always, at the seat/top tube juncture. The second nestles at the top/head/down tube juncture. It's tricky with bikes that have radically-sloping top tubes, as the rear end of the pump doesn't necessarily have an acute angle to work with--and if you don't have an acute angle from this juncture, a pump won't work along the top tube.

Some people manage to fit a frame pump between their left dropout and the top of their seat tube running along the left chainstay, or use the rear wheel quick release to help work it into place.

The one I find crazy is where people somehow manage to fit the pump between their handlebar and their front quick release.

So, if you want one, measure the distance from the seat tube to the head tube in a straight line from underneath the top tube. You can then figure out what size you need. I'm a fan of Blackburn pumps, but Topeak pumps are fairly popular as well, Zefal used to make good ones, and Park Tool has an interesting one that allegedly fits all bike sizes.

I think these things are cool and classic and wonderful. If I flat on a ride, I'm happy to have a friend around with one.

But modern mini-pumps are really effective. I'm probably going to get hit with bad karma and flat multiple times for saying this but.... I don't think it is worth lugging one of those frame pumps around anymore. I've seen those frame pumps rocket off mid-ride after hitting potholes, etc. Just don't seem worth it. They never seem totally stable.

Sure, it isn't as good as the frame pump for filling up a flat. But for the minimal number of times I flat, it is worth it. I got 2 or 3 flats in 2011. Not worth it in my book.

In fact, when I rode cross country, I used a mini-pump as well. Worked fine.

I have a saddle bag with a CO2 inflator in it so I always have something. I will also generally put one of these Topeak Micro Rockets in my pocket as a second line of defense. It's light so it doesn't cause my jersey to twist around my body when I'm climbing out of the saddle and It's so small it even fits in larger saddle bags. I really love the little thing, it's a great desigh (German!), and it's surprisingly effective given its diminutive size.
