I sent out an email last night. There is a club champ jersey for the 1/2/3 and 3/4 with requirement that there be at least two kissena in each field.

Brisk race in the 1/2/3's. 101 starters on the list. Jeff Condon and I toed the line.
I was feeling pretty good about my form, but found out in the first lap that that good feeling wasn't merited.
It seemed like we were both yo-yoing a good bit, but then I wasn't sure I should be concerned as the usual suspects when it comes to attacking were kind of doing the same--Constantine Schreiber, Mike Margarite, Baris Aytan, Josh Lipka, John Loehner were all kind of in the same boat. I don't know if either Jeff or I had the legs to stick a break, but it was one of those days, when it seems that waiting is more prudent.
There were attacks, but nothing was going far.
And then it did. Around 4 laps to go, just before the downhill, it went. The first three of the hammers I mentioned were in the move. As were two guys from Good Guys racing (where did these guys come from? They seem to have arrived in the US this year). They, and another seven quickly got 20 seconds, and that was that.
On the last lap, we were going hard, but not brutal. I worked my way up to about 10 from the front as we hit the bottom of the hill. Then there was a pause, and I rolled to the front. Not going hard because there's too much distance before the finish, figured it was a moment for something I could maintain and attack from. Then a Blue Ribbon attacks, the field surges and I drop back. The Blue Ribbon rider was caught pretty quickly.
Coming past the triangle, Jeff pulls even with me. We sprint. It's neck-and-neck, and I throw my bike at the line, and get him (according to the results). I'm glad he didn't wear a skin suit, or throw his bike at the line. We finish 26th and 27th--13th and 14th in the field.
Our average speed was 26.6mph. Interestingly, when I looked at my power files my hardest two minutes were the last two, my hardest 5, 10, 20, 30 minutes all ended at the finish line.
Great to be out racing.

If I’ve read the results correctly, JP and Ricky are our 2019 123 and 34 club champions. Congratulations to both of them. We will order their champion jerseys in coming weeks.

This Saturday's Kissena Fall Classic in Prospect Park is our official club road champs. The club awards custom champion jerseys to the first Kissena riders in the Cat 3/4 and 1/2/3 fields.
Whether going for the win or just wanting to have a good time and get coffee afterwards, come race the Kissena Fall Classic. As usual, Charlie will need reg volunteers (you race for free), click this link and sign up!
Each jersey must have a minimum of two contestants in order to produce a winner.

TL/DR. Bunch sprint. 48th. Did a good job with positioning until the field stalled just before the hill started. I went from 5th to 20th and decided I wasn't going to fight it out. It was a split-second decision that I regret. Slowest race of the year 26.6mph

My positioning was crap most of the race. I had a slow start and fell to the back of the pack and each time I tried to move up, it was the wrong wheel or we’d just get caught up behind a wall of riders not doing much. Finally got towards the front on the second to last lap courtesy of my friend Justin and we slotted in around 5th wheel and held about there until the last hill. Got swarmed at that point. Kevin was on my wheel going up the hill and came around me, I hopped on his wheel but knew the legs weren’t there so I sat up and just rolled safely across the line.
Didn’t get as many park races in this season as I wanted, so definitely was feeling it when it came to comfort in the pack.
Congrats to Michael for taking down the club champs! We’ll deserved and the cherry on top of a great season!

This was my first park race since June, so I was a little nervous about riding in the pack and unsure of my fitness. I think being there early to help with registration and having so many Kissenistas about helped calm my nerves. One of my goals for this race was to try to ride more consistently in the front of the pack. Previous races for me involved a lot of wasted energy yo-yoing between frontish and rearish. I was able to move towards the front front the start and remain mostly in the vicinity of the front for the remainder of the laps. It helped a lot to have Michael as a kind of beacon riding up there throughtout the entirity fo the race. Being frontish freed me of contantly wondering if the random guy in front of me was going to do something foolish, or just poop out at the most inconvenient moment, and settle into a pretty good rhythm. I was feeling surprisingly fresh, and in good position for the bell lap. I found myself on Michael's wheel at the start of the hill and then a voice in my head said "he's going to be too fast, save something for the sprint". So I pulled off and kind of puttered up the hill in a crowd, at which point another voice popped into my head: Charlie's, making his usual pre-race remark about how "there are only 3 places that matter: 1st, 2nd and 3rd. 11th is the same as 111th. Don't embarrass yourself sprinting for 33rd place." So I finished in 55th place (37th for Cat 4's!). There's not much chance that! I would have finished much higher if I'd stayed on Michael's wheel, but next time I find myself lucky enough to be in that position I'm not going to listen to those voices in my head. It was a great day of bike racing!

My race day started in a bit of a rush. Woke up late and barely made it to the line in time for the 5's start. I was coming off a 3rd place last weekend at World's Fair, so I knew I had some legs in me. This was went a bit different than the other PP races this year. A small group was able to get off the front and establish a solid gap. With a lap and a half to go Andrew put in a killer effort and was able to bridge the gap up to the break. When we came over the top of the penultimate hill, the gap wasn't coming down so I put an effort in to get up to the front of the pack and put on the best acting I could while sitting a chill pace to give Andrew as much chance as possible to stay away. Sadly it only lasted about a quarter lap before the field got pissed. A few guys hammered through the downhill on the last lap, so I hopped on for a free ride. We ended up catching the break going up the hill and going over the top. I could hear Andrew cheering me on. Sanba put in an attack and it was on for the sprint. I ended up on the left side, launched right around the last crosswalk before the finish. Got passed a few guys and tried to move to the inside to get around 4th, but ran out of road. The Sanba guys held strong out front for the win (and 3rd). Ended up 5th.
